Position Description:
CICE is seeking a talented and experienced Communications Director to develop and lead our communications efforts to advance the economic case for clean energy among the chamber and economic development community as well as elevate CICE’s profile as a leading economic voice for clean energy.
This position reports to the Executive Director and is supported by the Communications Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a strategic communications plan to effectively convey the economic case for clean energy to key stakeholders, including chambers and economic development leaders, policymakers, media outlets, and the public.
- Develop compelling economic-based messaging and talking points in support of strong clean energy policies and projects.
- Oversee the creation, production, and review of high-quality communication materials, including reports, email communications, website content, social media posts, and promotional materials.
- Build CICE’s reputation for expertise and thought leadership on the clean energy economy.
- Monitor and track media coverage, providing strategic guidance and recommendations for earned media and other opportunities.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams, including policy and regional directors, to ensure alignment and integration of organizational strategies and objectives.
- Develop strategies on the most effective ways to maximize communication as an advocacy tool.
- Stay abreast of emerging trends, issues, and best practices in communications and advocacy, and proactively identify opportunities to enhance CICE’s communication strategies.
- Manage and mentor the Communications Manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Ideally, we are looking for someone with the following experience, knowledge base, and skills:
- At least 7 years of increasingly senior communications, public relations, or related experience.
- Background working for or with chamber of commerce or economic development organizations.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing successful communication strategies that effectively engage target audiences and achieve organizational objectives.
- Strong understanding of and keen interest in the intersection of clean energy and business development.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability and experience to distill complex or technical issues into clear, compelling messaging—and teach others to do so.
- Strong media relations skills and a proven ability to secure positive media coverage across traditional and digital platforms.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, evaluate priorities, and manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
- Experience with staff supervision, project management, and strategy development.
- Strong strategic mindset and proven ability to translate strategy into action.
- Proactive and collaborative approach to problem-solving and decision-making; work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Enthusiastic to learn and contribute to advancing clean energy.
- Proficiency in Google Workplace, Canva or other editing software, social media and email platforms, and other relevant communication tools and technologies.
- Ability to work independently in a virtual business environment.
