We are looking for someone to join our team as the Senior Director, Public Policy. ### Summary/Objective

ASAE is looking for an energetic advocacy professional to play a pivotal role in shaping ASAE’s lobbying and advocacy work. Through a team-oriented approach and reporting to the Senior Vice President, Public Policy, the position will take a leadership role in ASAE’s lobbying, grassroots, and PAC efforts. This position will manage ASAE’s Senior Manager, Public Policy and PAC, as well as manage hired lobbyists and consultants. The Senior Director will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to advance ASAE’s policy objectives, advocate for ASAE member interests, build relationships with key policymakers, and manage key committees and coalitions.

#### Policy Development (20%)
– Develop and implement a comprehensive public policy agenda aligned with the association’s strategic goals.
– Conduct research and analysis on relevant policy issues and trends.
– Identify and assess potential legislative, regulatory, and policy initiatives that may impact the association’s members.
– Prepare policy briefs, white papers, and testimony to inform policymakers and stakeholders.
#### Advocacy (30%)
– Advocate for ASAE policy issues on Capitol Hill and before the Executive Branch. Staff person will be registered as a federal lobbyist.
– Build and maintain relationships with key policymakers, staff, and advocacy organizations.
– Develop and execute advocacy strategies, including grassroots campaigns and media outreach.
– Administer coalitions (Tax Coalition, Tomorrow’s Workforce Coalition, Professional Certification Coalition) and lead coalition-building efforts.
– Attend PAC fundraising and/or possible partisan programs.
– Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments that affect ASAE’s members.
– Track and report on legislative activity and voting records.
– Coordinate with members and industry partners to ensure their input is reflected in the association’s policy positions.
#### Member Engagement (30%)
– Educate members on public policy issues and engage them in advocacy efforts. This includes regular in-person and virtual speaking engagements and written work.
– Manage ASAE’s Legislative Fly In.
– Facilitate member input into the development of the association’s policy agenda.
– Manage ASAE Advocacy Council and Power of Associations Committee.
– Manage ASAE’s Key Professional Associations Committee and Key Industry Associations Committee, two committees of major trade and professional society association CEOs.
– Manage outreach to chief executives of the state, local, and regional societies of association executives.
#### Team Leadership (20%)
– Oversee and manage Senior Manager, Public Policy and PAC.
– Provide mentorship and development opportunities for direct reports.
– Foster a collaborative and results-oriented work environment.
### Essential Skills
– Demonstrated knowledge of, or experience with, the legislative/regulatory process.
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
– Entrepreneurial spirit with strong initiative and follow through.
– Ability to synthesize information and write clearly, logically, and persuasively on assigned issues for diverse audiences.
– Ability to speak clearly and persuasively on legislative topics or topics related to the ASAE Public Policy Department.
– Strong organizational, planning, and management skills for group meetings.
– Ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously and exercise a high degree of discretion and strategic judgment.
– Ability to work under several deadlines, prioritize, and function well autonomously and as a self-motivated team member.
– Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office products and database management software. Experience with Office365, Quorum, and Wicket is a plus.
– Knowledge of social media tools and best practices.
### Supervisory Responsibility
This position will manage ASAE’s Senior Manager, Public Policy and PAC.
### Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment.
### Physical Demands
Ability to lift 20 pounds on occasion.
### Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Ability to work before and after-hours events on occasion is needed.
### Travel
Occasional travel is required.
### Required Education and Experience
– Bachelor’s degree in political science, communications, or a similar field, or an equivalent combination of work experience, training, and certifications.
### Preferred Education and Experience
– Capitol Hill or campaign experience is a plus but not required.
– Experience working in government, public relations, or a policy role.
### Work Authorization/Security Clearance
Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
