### The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Overview
The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s largest small business advocacy organization, seeks to hire a **Principal, Government Relations** to join its Government Relations team.
### Responsibilities
The Principal of Government Relations is responsible for managing the financial services and banking portfolios before Congress and the administration. Key responsibilities include:
– Establishing and maintaining contacts with Congressional offices/committees.
– Communicating the organization’s positions through lobbying efforts.
– Influencing policy outcomes for the benefit of NFIB members.
– Leading and participating in coalitions of business organizations to promote NFIB’s positions.
– Conducting background research and analysis on legislation and regulations to make policy recommendations and develop legislative initiatives.
– Monitoring and reporting on the national political climate and specific political races for potential NFIB involvement.
– Communicating NFIB’s position to members, other departments, the news media, and the general public.
– Involvement in NFIB Federal PAC incumbent budget planning and distribution.
– Representing NFIB at political events.
**Additional Requirements:**
– Effective verbal and written communication.
– Work outcomes must meet or exceed productivity and quality standards.
– Ability to work in a cooperative team environment as well as independently.
– Adherence to Company and Department policies, including regular and predictable attendance.
– Perform other projects as needed.
**Salary Range:** $100,000 – $145,000
### Qualifications
– A minimum of five (5) years of federal legislative experience, including in-depth knowledge of the legislative process attained by working with the House, Senate, or in government relations.
– Specialized knowledge of Congress and the legislative process, with a focus on financial services and banking policy.
– Knowledge of policy and political issues gained through previous work and research experience.
– Ability to analyze legislative language and regulations and communicate findings succinctly.
– An established network of contacts on Capitol Hill.
– Basic experience in political campaigns and public relations/media affairs is a plus.
– Ability to serve as an NFIB spokesperson with the media on relevant issues.
– Strong verbal and written communication skills.
– Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
– Service orientation, integrity, and collaborative ability with colleagues and membership.
– Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legislative tracking programs.
**Education:** Bachelor’s degree required.
