### Summary
BSPS, a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation, is currently seeking a qualified Legislative Affairs Specialist for SCA Staff Support Services, Office of Security and Transnational Affairs (SCA/STA), Washington, DC 20520. The Legislative Affairs Officer will assist in promoting, coordinating, and managing administrative tasks related to all aspects of the Bureau’s various legislative efforts in the South and Central Asian region.
### Responsibilities
#### Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential duties and responsibilities listed below represent a descriptive range of tasks performed for this position and are not exhaustive. Other duties may be assigned.
– Scheduling SCA Bureau contacts with Members of Congress and their staff.
– Preparing and/or coordinating the preparation of briefing materials for bureau officials to use in contacts with Members of Congress and their staff.
– Monitoring congressional travel to SCA countries and coordinating bureau support for CODEL and STAFFDEL pre-briefs and out-briefs as needed.
– Responding to or coordinating the bureau response to formal and informal congressional correspondence.
– Maintaining an internal tracking system of legislative taskers, key congressional committees, and staffers, and ensuring clear communication with the SCA front office, regional desks, embassies, and other stakeholders on legislative issues.
– Creating and implementing legislative strategies to advance the bureau’s funding requests and other strategic policy initiatives.
– Monitoring developments in key committees related to South and Central Asia, providing timely assessments and analysis, and contributing to well-coordinated policy recommendations for presentation to the Deputy Director, Director, and SCA Front Office.
– Representing the office and SCA Bureau at meetings within the Department and in negotiations with other agencies, foreign governments, and non-governmental organizations, as appropriate and in accordance with Department guidelines.
– Performing all other duties required by the office and SCA Bureau as assigned.
– Applying internal control measures to protect organizational integrity and prevent unauthorized use or misappropriation of sensitive and classified material; reporting security violations or problems to the appropriate supervisory/management official.
– Tracking Indo-Pacific assistance implementers and reporting outcomes, including drafting Information Memos to Department principals and incorporating data into public and congressional messaging.

This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation “safety-sensitive” functions.
### Work Environment
Work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily in a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required.

### Additional Qualifying Factors
As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
