The Alliance for Retired Americans is seeking candidates for the position of Social Media Manager.

The Alliance is a national grassroots advocacy organization with 4.4 million members nationwide that works to ensure a secure retirement for all Americans. This is a full-time exempt bargaining unit position in the Washington, DC office.

Overview
The Communications Department helps to advance the Alliance’s policy agenda by educating and mobilizing our members, the media, and the public. Our advocacy goals include strengthening the Social Security and Medicare systems; ensuring older Americans have access to high-quality, affordable health care; and lowering prescription drug prices. We also work to elect candidates and elected officials who fight to strengthen retirement security for all Americans.

Working under the supervision of the Director of Communications and Digital Strategy, the Social Media Manager is responsible for engaging and growing our audience, advancing our policy agenda, and building meaningful relationships through impactful social media outreach. This requires close collaboration and coordination with other Alliance departments, state and local Alliance leaders and members, and allied organizations.

Digital Outreach Manager Job Description
Successful candidates must be knowledgeable about the latest digital and social media trends, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and have the ability to create creative and effective digital content to enhance advocacy goals.

Responsibilities
Develop and execute long-term social media strategy aligned with organizational goals and target audiences

Identify opportunities and develop timely and impactful rapid-response digital content that advances the organization’s message, increases engagement, followers, and subscribers, and positions the organization as a relevant voice in policy debates

Monitor, analyze, and report on the performance of social media campaigns on an ongoing basis, utilizing analytics tools to provide insights and recommendations for optimization

Manage social media accounts, including content creation, scheduling, monitoring, and responding to inquiries and comments promptly and professionally

Create and maintain relevant and engaging content tailored to members and allies, utilizing a mix of text, images, videos, and other multimedia formats. Experience with Canva, InShot, CapCut, Vimeo, YouTube, InDesign, Adobe Suite or similar tools is required

Ensure compliance with industry regulations and guidelines, including data privacy and content usage rights

Monitor comments on Alliance social media platforms and respond in a timely and appropriate manner

When required, assist other Communications Department members with writing, editing, and proofing

Essential Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, Journalism, or a related field or equivalent experience

Proven track record developing and executing social media campaigns for issue advocacy organizations, elected officials, the labor movement, or political campaigns

Experience shooting and editing recorded videos and live streams; writing and editing digital content; archiving and organizing content; monitoring social media platforms for relevant news, posts, and trends; creating graphics and other creative assets

In-depth knowledge of digital and social media industry trends, features, and best practices

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for different social media platforms and audiences

Proficiency in using social media management tools, analytics platforms, and content creation software such as InDesign, Adobe Suite, Canva, CapCut, or InShot
