POSITION SUMMARY
The Global Head of Government Affairs will lead and execute SFA’s government relations strategy, with primary responsibility for U.S. federal legislative engagement and oversight of the Association’s broader international advocacy coordination. As the face of SFA in interactions with legislators and regulators worldwide, this individual will champion SFA’s policy positions and help influence key decisions affecting the structured finance market.
This role reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and serves as the senior leader responsible for executing SFA’s legislative and political advocacy efforts. In this capacity, the Global Head of Government Affairs will work closely with the COO and CEO to shape SFA’s advocacy priorities and ensure the organization’s policy positions are effectively advanced in legislative and political forums.
The ideal candidate is a dynamic and experienced government relations professional with a strong background in Washington, D.C. and familiarity with financial markets. Experience working with trade associations and knowledge of fixed income products are valuable assets. In this role, you will build and maintain strategic relationships with policymakers, identify key opportunities for engagement, and support the CEO and COO in shaping and expanding SFA’s international advocacy framework.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Serve as a senior advisor to the CEO and COO on legislative strategy, political dynamics, and the securitization industry’s regulatory needs across global markets.
- Advise senior leadership and SFA membership on policy issues, legislative developments, and political trends relevant to the structured finance industry and develop strategies to mitigate risk or leverage opportunities.
- Engage directly with SFA member firms and leadership committees to develop advocacy priorities and ensure alignment with industry needs.
- Partner closely with the Policy and Regulatory Affairs team to align legislative advocacy with regulatory priorities and broader industry policy objectives.
- Effectively communicate and negotiate with policymakers to drive legislative outcomes and support regulatory engagement aligned with SFA’s policy priorities.
- Develop, maintain, and grow strategic relationships with Members of Congress, congressional committees, and senior staff; serve as the primary liaison with legislators and federal policymakers.
- Collaborate with industry peers and trade associations on industrywide responses to shared policy priorities.
- Lead coalition engagement across financial services trade associations, market participants, and stakeholder groups to advance shared policy priorities.
- Provide strategic oversight of SFA’s political engagement efforts, including coordination with SF PAC activities and member engagement around political advocacy.
- Lead and develop SFA’s government relations team, including Directors and advocacy staff, while fostering a collaborative, high-performing advocacy function aligned with the Association’s broader mission.
- Oversee and coordinate SFA’s external advocacy partners and consultants, ensuring alignment with the Association’s legislative priorities and strategic objectives.
- Establish best practices for advocacy engagement across different regions, ensuring cultural and political nuances are appropriately considered.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, & QUALIFICATIONS

- Significant experience in public policy, regulatory affairs, and financial services, with a deep understanding of the relevant regulatory and policy landscape.
- Demonstrated skill in proactively building relationships with policymakers, regulators, lobbyists, and key decision makers.
- Proven track record in strategic policy development and advocacy.
- Analytical and critical thinking skills to assess regulatory risks and opportunities.
- Experience preparing and delivering effective summaries on complex issues.
- Ability to navigate complex political environments.
- Excellent and persuasive communication skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate at senior levels.
- Team player with strong leadership capabilities who works well in cross-functional settings.
- Ability to execute in a high-demand environment while balancing multiple priorities.

A reasonable estimate of the total compensation range for this role is $400,000-$550,000. This range represents the company’s good-faith estimate of the range of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, geographic location, training, licensure and certification, and other factors. SFA also offers a competitive benefit package including a discretionary corporate bonus program, multiple health plans, STD and LTD options, company-sponsored life insurance, paid parental leave, paid time off, and 401K matching.
