**Role Overview**

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Public Engagement and Communications to lead our global stakeholder and public engagement strategy. This hybrid role reflects the important intersection of building strong partnerships, building and sustaining public trust, and supporting a wide range of programs, lines of business, and initiatives. Based in the US, this role carries a comprehensive global remit, prioritizing public affairs, key stakeholder relations, and community engagement campaigns across our diverse operational footprint in the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Australia.

Reporting to executive leadership, you will design the frameworks and initiatives that build trust with international stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and local communities. Additionally, you will translate complex scientific and technological achievements into compelling, accessible narratives, ensuring consistent messaging across our various divisions and enterprises.

**Key Responsibilities**

**Public Affairs & Community Engagement**

– **Stakeholder Relations:** Take ownership of key stakeholder relationships globally, acting as the primary liaison with government agencies, NGOs, regulatory bodies, academic partners, and community leaders.
– **Engagement Campaigns:** Design, launch, and manage comprehensive public engagement campaigns tailored to diverse international markets to build transparency, education, and trust where Flyttr deploys its technologies and services.
– **Public Affairs Management:** Manage and direct public affairs initiatives, closely monitoring global policy trends, legislative environments, and public sentiment regarding biosecurity and biological control methods.
– **Local Integration:** Collaborate directly with our national and local commercial, scientific, and operational leaders to navigate complex regional dynamics and ensure our public engagement strategies are culturally relevant and impactful.

**Global Communications & Media Relations**

– **Media Strategy:** Develop and execute a proactive global communications and media strategy that aligns with Flyttr’s rapid growth and expanding international presence.
– **Media Management:** Serve as the primary media contact, cultivating relationships with top‑tier science, technology, agriculture, and business journalists.
– **Content Creation:** Draft and manage the distribution of press releases, op‑eds, executive briefing materials, and corporate statements.
– **Crisis Communications:** Act as a strategic advisor for crisis communications, anticipating potential public relations challenges in complex markets and deploying proactive mitigation strategies.

**Brand & Internal Communications**

– **Brand Guardianship:** Guard and promote Flyttr’s visual and tonal identity, ensuring all external communications reflect our modern, forward‑looking aerospace and biosecurity aesthetic.
– **Division Alignment:** Partner with division, program, and/or country leads to align messaging, stakeholder coordination (where necessary), partnership initiatives, and support to in‑market commercial efforts.
– **Internal Strategy:** Develop internal communication strategies to keep a highly specialized, globally distributed workforce of scientists, engineers, and operational staff informed and engaged.

**Qualifications & Experience**

– **Experience:** 10–15 years of progressive experience, with a heavy emphasis on public affairs, community engagement, and stakeholder management, supplemented by corporate communications or PR experience.
– **Mindset:** Open mind; willingness to take on any task at any level; roll‑up‑sleeves approach appropriate for a start‑up culture.
– **Industry Knowledge:** Background in biotechnology, biosecurity, global health (e.g., malaria, dengue), and/or agriculture is highly preferred. Must have a proven ability to distill complex data and scientific concepts (e.g., biological controls, AI monitoring networks) for non‑technical audiences.
– **Global Acumen:** Demonstrated experience designing engagement campaigns in the US and across international borders and navigating diverse cultural, political, and regulatory landscapes.
– **Global Portfolio:** Ability to balance the dynamics, schedules, and requirements of a global business active in virtually every major time zone, as well as the ability to travel throughout the US and internationally.
– **Strategic Leadership:** Strong track record of building trust with critical stakeholders from the ground up and managing high‑stakes public affairs portfolios.
– **Skills:** Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; high emotional intelligence; and the agility to thrive in a fast‑paced, exciting, and trust‑centered environment.
– **Education:** BA/BS required; MA/MS/MBA beneficial.
– **Location:** Based in the US and must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

This is a remote or hybrid role and may be performed from an agreed U.S. location. In compliance with pay‑transparency laws in multiple states, we expect the compensation to include a base salary in the range of $120,000–$170,000. This is a good‑faith assumption of what the company reasonably expects to pay for this role at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as skills, experience, education, and location.
