Government Affairs Manager, Farm Production & Operations
The American Soybean Association (ASA) Government Affairs team in Washington, D.C., is seeking a Government Affairs Manager to lead its farm policy and operations policy portfolio. This portfolio includes issues relating to agricultural economy impacts, farm safety net programs (crop insurance and credit), federal agricultural assistance, farmland use, property rights, and farm labor.
This individual will lead advocacy execution, collaborate across ASA functions and with state affiliates, serve as the lead ASA Government Affairs liaison on federal policy impacting on-farm operations, and build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
This position will manage farm policy advocacy efforts, including drafting public comments, formal testimony, and letters; engaging with lawmakers, aligned trade associations, and industry stakeholders; coordinating closely with ASA’s state affiliates; and developing ASA federal advocacy materials.
ASA is a national trade association that advocates on behalf of all U.S. soybean farmers on domestic and international trade issues. It is the collective voice of nearly 500,000 producers in 30 soybean-producing states represented through 26 state affiliates. ASA is headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, and its Government Affairs team is based in Washington, D.C.

What We Need
At least 2 years of experience working on legislative or on-farm operational policy issues, including an understanding of farm safety net programs, federal ad hoc agricultural economic and disaster assistance, and policies related to agricultural production.
Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Business, Political Science, or a related field.
Strong communication skills.
Strong writing skills, including the ability to develop both technical policy documents and summary documents on complex issues.
Ability to work in a bipartisan and diplomatic manner.
Strong organizational and collaborative skills.
