### Brief Description
#### Assistant Director, Regulatory Affairs & Payer Advocacy
– Identifying and analyzing private payer policies/proposals that impact the practice of pathology, including payment for and access to pathology services, burdensome administrative requirements, utilization concerns, and interference with the practice of medicine.
– Developing and executing advocacy strategies related to appropriate private payer reimbursement and other issues affecting the ability of pathologists to deliver pathology/laboratory services.
– Educating CAP members on private payer policy developments, private sector trends, and related CAP advocacy.
– Developing and maintaining relationships with private payers and educating them on pathology payment and value, contractual/compliance concerns, and access to care issues.
– Advocating with stakeholders and government entities as appropriate to achieve favorable private payer policies and protect patients’ access to pathology services.
– Serving as staff to the Economic Affairs Committee.

### Specific Duties
#### Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
– Coordinate with state advocacy staff, state pathology societies, CAP members, and other stakeholders/sources to identify and monitor private payer developments at state and national levels.
– Analyze private payer policies/proposals and develop advocacy strategies for appropriate reimbursement and decreased administrative burdens for practicing pathologists.
– Draft letters and facilitate CAP communication with private payers, arranging meetings and following up on discussions as appropriate.
– Coordinate with the CAP’s communications and practice management staff to provide private payer updates and education to CAP members, including through newsletter articles, presentations/webinars, and the CAP website.
– Promote awareness of CAP advocacy and resources related to private payer issues and trends.
– Develop and maintain regular contacts with representatives from the insurance, laboratory, and related industries on pathology practice and private payer issues.
– Enhance relationships with other specialty societies, the AMA, and others as needed to advance private payer advocacy agenda.
– Serve as support staff to the Economic Affairs Committee Subcommittee on Payment Policy, including agenda and slide deck development, participation in meeting presentations/discussions, and execution of relevant follow-up action items.

### Knowledge/Skills Required/Preferred
#### Personal:
– Strong oral and written communication skills.
– Highly self-motivated.
– Able to work collaboratively in a diverse work environment with CAP members and staff.

#### Professional:
– In-depth knowledge of regulatory, public policy, and payment issues impacting physicians is essential.
– Ability to describe complex payment issues in everyday language.
– Able to work with staff and members in a team environment to formulate strategy on controversial and complex issues in adverse political environments.
– Able to analyze, interpret, and advocate complex payment policy issues affecting pathology.

#### Technical:
– Proficient in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

#### Required Skills:
– Communicate clearly, persuasively, and effectively in individual, small-group, and public settings.
– Think and act strategically.
– Make timely and effective decisions.
– Focus on team coordination, integration, and facilitation across organizational initiatives.
– Organize and execute major projects to successful conclusion in a timely manner.

### Education/Experience
– **Education:** Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Policy, or similar relevant area preferred.
– **Experience:** Knowledge of health care payment/financing and experience working with the private health insurance industry. Five to ten years’ experience in health policy analysis. Specific experience in developing, executing, and managing successful strategies and building internal consensus. Prior health/medical society or association experience preferred. Knowledge of pathology or laboratory medicine issues a plus, but not required.

### Additional Criteria
– Some weekend travel required, 3-5 times per year.
– This role is based out of the Washington, DC headquarters, and candidates must reside within a reasonable commute to the office.

– The pay range for this position in Washington D.C. is $111,779-$142,469. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An Employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, and business or organizational needs.
