Job Summary:

The Communications Director supports Latino Victory’s mission and vision by developing a comprehensive messaging strategy that advances our programmatic work, advocacy priorities, endorsed candidates, and overall impact. This position will support the Communications department in establishing and managing relationships with the press, messaging through social media and other digital outlets, writing public-facing output, managing surrogates in the coordination of events, and working with the leadership team to handle any public relations issues that may arise internally or externally.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop a comprehensive strategy for communications, supporting efforts to increase the visibility of the organization, programs, issues, and candidates.
  • Draft and/or review all external communications including press releases, statements, op-eds, talking points, speeches, and other materials that disseminate key information to the media and the public.
  • Execute media pitches and manage press inquiries.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with media outlets and journalists to enhance brand awareness, maximize media pitches, and secure positive coverage.
  • Monitor media coverage and respond to any inaccuracies or negative portrayals.
  • Provide staffing and on-the-ground support for press events.
  • Ensure consistency of message, look, and feel of all communications.
  • Help develop creative and innovative campaigns to mobilize Latinos.
  • Oversee the organization’s social media presence across platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram, in English and Spanish.
  • Develop engaging content to foster meaningful interactions with followers and enhance brand visibility.
  • Analyze social media metrics to measure the effectiveness of campaigns and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Represent the organization and serve as spokesperson, as needed, with key stakeholders and influencers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of government and the Democratic party.
  • Spanish language proficiency.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages for diverse audiences.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of conversations, data records, files, and other vital information.
  • Experience in crisis communication and reputation management.
  • Proficiency in using communication tools and platforms, including social media management tools, content management systems, and media monitoring software.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of industry trends and best practices in communication and public relations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum five years of experience in communication roles, with a focus on media relations, public relations, and social media management.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Ability to travel.

Special Requirements:

Due to the nature of our business, you are expected to work extended or unusual hours, when required, and in case of emergency, including holidays and weekends.

Salary Range:

$90,000 – $120,000
