Caterpillar’s Resource Industries Sales, Services and Technology (RISST) division is currently seeking a Communications Manager, located at the Tucson Mining Center in Tucson, AZ.
JOB PURPOSE: To develop, manage and implement strategic communication process, division HR communications and division strategy communications for RISST, which includes 800 global salaried and management employees. Incumbent will collaborate with the vice president, lead HR manager and general managers to develop and implement communication strategies to achieve divisional objectives as well as provide regular communications to dealers and customers – including global accounts.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting directly to this position is one divisional communication representative. This role will work very closely with the mining marketing and go-to-market teams on external dealer and customer facing materials.
This position directly impacts the RISST key strategic areas of focus by educating, informing and energizing leaders and employees to understand how their day-to-day efforts impact the positive OPACC pull through of the entire organization.
The role will partner with a new vice president to help define key messages, messaging platforms, both internal and external, and traditional internal tools as well as social media.
Ensure development, production and measurement of internal and external communication materials to achieve division and departmental objectives while remaining aligned with corporate objectives.
Responsible for deliverables that include, but are not limited to, speeches, video scripts, presentations (Board of Directors, Executive Office deep dives, VP Presentations, and external speaking events), newsletter articles (division-wide newsletter), website and internal all-supervisor and all-employee meetings. Since Tucson has three of the key facilities to showcase Caterpillar’s mining technology, at times this role will support large scale customer / dealer events and messaging. Manage local media relations where necessary and serve as a liaison with Corporate Public Affairs.
Serve as the communication focal point and deliver communications to employees within the Division. Provide service of quality and value that facilitates employee communications and supports the development, marketing and promotion of products and services to internal customers and process partners. Define a structured communications program for employees and provide leadership to create and develop themes, formats, medias and timetables for major programs and presentations and orchestrate from concept to execution.
This position acts as an advisor or consultant to senior management on communications, Organizational Change Management (OCM) issues and strategic initiatives or employee matters. Develop and execute OCM and communication plans for division/corporate initiatives.
Develop and maintain Division’s identity program, integrating key messages and visual identifiers and ensure consistency with corporate brand.
Manage a work unit of primarily management/professional employees where review of subordinate work is required as well as training, developing and mentoring. The position is responsible for all personnel matters and performance evaluation of the subordinate.
Typical internal customers include various contacts in mining sales, services, technology, marketing and support. The position works to develop innovative processes or methods to best use resources or technology in meeting goals. The position often confronts complex issues or problems that require careful analysis and diagnosis. Problems are often unique, and solutions can require original approaches.
Establish metrics or other measurements and monitors general policies and guidelines for projects under his/her control to ensure specific, management goals are met, and desired results are achieved. Impacts key quality goals including Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Quality, etc.
Limited travel required (between 5-10%).
*A college or university degree in marketing, communications or a related field or equivalent experience.
*8+ years of progressively responsible job-related experience are required
TOP CANDIDATES WILL ALSO HAVE:
*Advanced degree in a Communications related field; previous supervisory experience; extensive experience in communications and familiarity with Caterpillar functional areas, policies and procedures.
*The ability to maintain confidentiality, manage multiple priorities, work within a matrixed organization and strong writing skills are required to develop a cooperative work relationship with others inside and outside of the division.
*Excellent interpersonal skills are required in order to deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or persuade others inside and outside the division to take specific actions.
