### POSITION OVERVIEW

The Communications Associate will be responsible for supporting the Partnership’s internal communications and marketing functions. The associate will support the Communications Director in the design and implementation of the organization’s internal communications to inform and engage employees, shape culture, and create a shared understanding of the Partnership’s vision and priorities. This position will identify and deploy creative internal communications tactics to connect the organization’s work back to its strategic plan, share impact, and connect to our mission. This position will also work closely with the Marketing Manager to draft marketing emails, newsletters, and blogs in support of key initiatives and programs across the Partnership.

The Communications Associate will work as part of an interdisciplinary communications team of marketing, graphic design, social media, editorial, media, and events staff, and as a result, should be able to collaborate with others and contribute ideas. This person will also work closely with other Partnership teams and must be able to manage relationships and lead assigned projects from start to finish.

### ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

#### Internal Communications (65%)
– Draft and edit engaging content for internal communications channels, including a weekly staff newsletter, regular messages from the CEO and Executive Management team, all-staff emails, in-office signage, and other internal channels.
– Work with the Communications Director to create internal behavior-change campaigns to support new initiatives and procedures.
– Support the Communications Director and Chief of Staff in organizing and implementing all-hands meetings and trainings.
– Manage an intranet for information sharing and connection building with staff.
– Maintain an internal editorial calendar to ensure that internal communications are timely and relevant. Work with other members of the marketing team to coordinate internal and external messaging.
– Develop templates, best practices, and guidelines for content creation and curation.
– Share learnings from staff trainings and events in newsletters, intranet, and add to knowledge management.
– Work with the operations department to build and update email communications including timesheet reminders, new staff onboarding series, annual performance review series, budget updates, and more.
– Produce the Humans of the Partnership series, a weekly Q&A with employees.
– Interact with multiple levels of management and staff to strengthen the pipeline of content, connecting that content to the Partnership’s strategic plan.
– Assist in establishing metrics, tracking progress, and developing tools to improve staff ratings for internal communications in the organization’s annual survey of employee engagement.

#### Marketing (35%)
– Work with the Marketing Manager to implement the Partnership’s marketing strategy to engage the organization’s key stakeholders and build brand awareness for the organization through a variety of digital and traditional marketing tactics.
– Work with the Marketing Manager to develop content for the Partnership’s campaigns to recruit, acknowledge, and retain program and event participants.
– Work with the Marketing Manager to schedule and send the organization’s emails and newsletters and post blogs.
– Write clear and compelling cross-channel copy that is engaging and relevant. Draft key marketing and outreach material.
– Monitor and analyze campaign results across all channels to understand the effectiveness of strategies and tactics for improving marketing campaigns.
– Other duties as necessary.

### REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
– Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, public relations, communications or similar field or equivalent professional work or military experience.
– One to two years of experience, which may include internships.
– Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
– Familiarity with email marketing best practices.

### REPORTING STRUCTURE
This position will report to the Director of Communications. This position may supervise an intern.

### WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a hybrid (remote + office) environment in Washington, DC, and requires the candidate to be a permanent resident in the Washington, DC, Maryland, or Virginia area. The person in this role is expected to work in the office, on average, two days per week. This position requires consistent use of office equipment such as computer, telephone, printer/scanner, and MS Office.

In assessing employee performance at the Partnership, we consider collaboration, results, demonstration of our values, and a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. Our performance review process runs the calendar year; we conduct a performance check-in at mid-year and complete a formal full-year assessment at year end. Salary increases are based on the full-year performance assessment.

### POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position with regular work hours Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Occasional evening or weekend activities may be required. Please note that Partnership allows flexibility in work schedules.

### TRAVEL
If travel occurs, it is usually during the business day. Very little out of the area and/or overnight travel will be required.

### SALARY AND BENEFITS
The starting salary range is between $50,000 and $52,000. The Partnership offers a compensation package that includes a competitive salary; medical, dental and vision coverage; life insurance; long- and short-term disability insurance; a 401(k) program with a 4 percent employer match; opportunities for training and development; commuter benefits; 15 days of annual leave per year, 10 days of sick leave per year, plus all federal holidays and the day after Thanksgiving off; and use of an on-site exercise facility.
