Hagerty Consulting, Inc., is hiring! We are a nationally recognized, comprehensive homeland security and emergency management consulting firm focused on helping clients prepare for, respond to, and recovery from disasters.

With over 450 professionals in its network, Hagerty has successfully helped clients navigate some of the nation’s largest disasters including 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Sandy, Hurricane Maria, Hurricane Michael, and the 2018 wildfires in California.  Our firm is growing rapidly because of our high-quality work, and we need a talented, firm-wide, Communications Director.
The ideal candidate will:
  • Develop and inform Hagerty’s positioning through a unifying marketing, communications, and external affairs (MCEA) strategy:
  •  Actively develop and manage Hagerty’s brand across business units and service lines.
  • oServe as Hagerty’s primary leader of MCEA efforts.
  • Manage a MCEA working group with key stakeholders and technical leads.
  • Lead firm’s market presence and industry thought leadership:
  • Implement an integrated marketing and communications program that supports establishing Hagerty’s current and future offerings as top of mind in the Emergency Management and Homeland Security field.
  • Contribute to business growth through introducing the firm to new communications and marketing approaches, online research techniques and methodologies, tools, and technology; apply these to strengthen effectiveness of the firm’s campaigns.
  • Serve as Hagerty’s leader in media relations, including both traditional and social media outlets. Develop media campaigns utilizing Hagerty Executive Leadership placing leadership via Op-eds, media interviews with major outlets and identifying advocacy opportunities. Outlets Hagerty has been featured in the past include ABC, NBC, FOX, CNBC, CNN, etc. as well as print to include but not limited to New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, and other like publications.
  • Actively promote firm’s executive leadership at the national level through varied and ongoing opportunities.
  • Work with Hagerty Executives to explore external affairs efforts to advocate to legislators, associations, etc. on behalf of Hagerty Consulting position in the emergency management and homeland security industry.
  • Develop MCEA deliverables:
  • Act as day-to-day contact for the firm’s senior-level management and be responsible for the development and execution of external communications, marketing, social and digital communication strategies, and product related campaigns, that align with the firm’s growth strategy.
  • Execute all phases of media campaigns to include supporting Hagerty executives in development of content for placement, actively market placement, all needed coordination of the interview to include coordination with outlet and talking point preparation and follow on activity to include social placement.  Consistently produce high quality internal and external communications content including on the firm’s website and collateral (e.g., publications, project citations, press releases, staff biographies, white papers, videos, webinars etc.).
  • Provide coordination and oversight for the firm’s involvement with professional associations and conferences:
  • Facilitate conference-driven promotion for senior leadership or technical leads who may be present at events.
  • Identify opportunities for networking events and sponsorship associated with conferences.
  • Actively manage relationships along with Hagerty leadership with industry associations. Make recommendations for association relationships.
  • Build network of marketing industry contacts and participate in relevant professional organizations to meet expanding marketing opportunities.
  • Continually assess MCEA positioning considering market trends and firm needs:
  • Develop institutional knowledge of Hagerty’s core business strategy, industry issues, products and services offered, and the key customers and competitors in the marketplace.
  • Understand competitor MCEA approach and determine modifications required to Hagerty’s methodology
  • Make recommendation for MCEA related investments
  • Develop reporting metrics to measure success of MCEA tactics.
  • Provide Communications leadership on engagements and during events/firm response operations.
  • Drive external firm communications/marketing strategy during events
  • Integrate Communications capability with current Hagerty Consulting Divisions to augment client offerings with communications related consulting products. This may include public information campaigns, outreach efforts associated with current and future contractual work.
  • Serve as a crisis communication SME, as requested for client facing opportunities (e.g. citizen preparedness campaigns).
  • Proven ability to manage and implement a multi-faceted strategy related to integrated marketing and communications.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, advertising, public relations, communications, or journalism and eight or more years’ experience with a proven ability to develop and execute marketing plans and related campaigns in a coordinated manner across multiple outlets.
  • Existing network with major news channels.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task activities based upon identified priorities and short-term needs that arise in the emergency management and homeland security field.
  • Complete confidence in writing under pressure and under deadline. Remain composed and on-point while speaking. Display comfort while interacting directly with clients, executives, colleagues, and media representatives.
  • Ability to be a productive supporting member of a team and review the work of others to ensure conformance to standards.


The Communications Director will be based out of Washington DC. Hagerty may consider location from our other offices on a case-by-case basis.
