OVERVIEW

The Communications Officer will be responsible for supporting USCRI’s efforts to expand the organization’s visibility and enhance its fundraising efforts. Through effective social media strategies and outreach, creative storytelling and writing of fundraising content, the Communications Officer will be a critical member of the Strategic Development team to help increase revenue and raise the profile of USCRI. In addition, the Communications Officer will help ensure brand and messaging consistency across the organization. The ideal Communications Officer is a master storyteller, an experienced social media manager, and an individual who is passionate about supporting the dignity and livelihoods of refugees and immigrants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and manages strategic digital communications including social media outreach and website content and design;
  • Writes and publishes digital content (writing, graphics, and video on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, , the USCRI website and in e-newsletters to raise awareness of refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, survivors of trafficking and increase USCRI’s visibility as a leader in this space;
  • Serves as the USCRI storyteller by identifying, collecting and cataloguing testimonials/stories from the individuals whom USCRI serves;
  • Produces promotional and fundraising messages including digital fundraising campaigns, short videos and other fundraising pieces as needed;
  • Advises staff on digital and social media best practices and analyzes social media metrics to drive traffic and visibility;
  • Maintains the organization’s social media calendar;
  • Assists in the drafting of annual reports; and
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, international relations or related filed in history or social science is required;
  • At least 4-5 years’ experience in media and communications work; including a track record of increasing audience engagement on social media platforms;
  • Excellent writing, oral communication skills, computer skills and ability to communicate with a diverse range of individuals;
  • Strong capacity to leverage and tailor content and messaging to specific audiences;
  • Knowledge or experience in global humanitarian issues, refugee work overseas and/or domestic resettlement;
  • Graphic design skills highly preferred;
  • Networking and relationship-building skills, including excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to foster teamwork and strong engagement in a multi-cultural setting;
  • A self-starter, independent thinker with sound judgment, creativity, integrity, and dedication to the mission; and
  • Demonstrated support of USCRI’s values by exhibiting respect for others, maintenance of confidential information and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Satisfactory completion of USCRI’s Orientation and Training; and
  • Complete additional training as identified by supervisor(s) or Human Resources

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity;
  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands; and
  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying;
