The Deputy Director Role:
Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day media and public relations activities.
- Guide communications professionals in outreach efforts at various levels.
Qualifications:

- Proficient in rapid response and crisis communications.
- Skilled in working with media at state, regional, and national levels.

Key Duties:
- Manage daily media and public relations priorities.
- Track breaking news and implement rapid response.
- Conduct high-level press outreach and secure quality interviews.
- Build relationships with key journalists at different levels.
- Supervise press inbox and direct media inquiries appropriately.
- Provide regular media training for spokespeople.
- Hire, train, and monitor staff performance.
- Ensure organizational processes are followed.
- Uphold SPLC’s JEDI principles in collaboration and work.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Seven (7) years of PR experience in a fast-paced setting.
- Five (5) years of supervisory experience.
- High School Diploma or GED.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Exempt role with a minimum starting salary of $109,015 annually.
- Salary commensurate with experience.

Work Designations:
- Local Remote: Work remotely with attendance at SPLC offices or state events.
- Telework: Work at SPLC office three days per week, two days remotely.
Reporting Structure:
- Reports to the Director, Public and Media Relations.
Special Considerations:
- General office conditions, no strenuous physical demands.
- Works evenings and/or weekends in breaking news events.
