The SPLC’s Georgia Office is Hiring: State Office Director
Overview: The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is looking for an experienced State Office Director dedicated to social justice to lead their Georgia State Office. The role involves collaborating with in-state networks, community partners, and SPLC departments to develop and implement strategies. The State Director will also provide administrative leadership for the office locations.
Who You Are:
Experienced: Demonstrated experience in social justice/civil rights work, with strong relationships in the Georgia racial justice movement ecosystem.
Communicative: Ability to communicate effectively across racial, cultural, and socio-economic differences, both verbally and in writing.
A Leader: Proven leadership profile, including practical experiences with community organizations, impacted communities, policy, and grassroots within Southern Georgia.
An Advocate: Experience in local government, policy, and grassroots advocacy in Metro Atlanta and Southern Georgia.
Collaborative: Ability to work with internal departments, external organizations, political and business stakeholders, and community members.
Knowledgeable: Strong understanding of laws governing 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) permissible lobbying and electioneering activity.
Innovative and Strategic: Ability to craft an overall strategy for the state office, ensuring effective community work and establishing long-term goals.
Mission, Vision & Culture Alignment: Demonstrates awareness of SPLC’s mission and vision, commitment to justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and fostering an anti-racist work culture.
What You’ll Do:
- Launch the SPLC state-based office model in Georgia.
- Manage a team of professionals through training, duties assignment, and performance evaluations.
- Develop and implement SPLC’s state-based goals and strategies aligned with local and regional priorities.
- Support staff efforts to build lasting coalitions and trust within communities.
- Lead efforts to establish SPLC as a trusted partner in Metro-Atlanta and Southern Georgia.
- Ensure lobbying activities comply with state and local rules.
- Uphold JEDI principles by seeking diverse collaborators and partners.
- Other relevant tasks, duties, or special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 10+ years of social justice/civil rights work experience.
- 5+ years of managerial experience.
- 5+ years of policy advocacy and/or political campaign experience.
- Leadership experience in community organizations, impacted communities, policy, advocacy, and grassroots campaigns.
- Experience in local policy and grassroots advocacy in Metro Atlanta.
- Experience managing complex projects and campaigns.
- High school diploma or GED.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Exempt role with a minimum starting salary of $202,781.00 annually. Salary commensurate with experience.
Where & How You’ll Work:
- Local Remote: Work remotely but attend SPLC-related activities.
- Telework: Work at an SPLC office at least three days per week and may work two days per week remotely.
Other Special Considerations:
- General office conditions, no strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions.
