About the Job

Develop and execute comprehensive lobbying strategies to advance NMPF’s goals for the dairy industry at the national level. Issue portfolio likely to include labor and nutrition policy, with potential for other areas depending on the candidate.

Monitor policy developments within issue portfolio and provide timely analysis to the Executive Vice President. Formulate policy recommendations to promote the interests of dairy farmers and their cooperatives.

Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, policymakers, member cooperative representatives, industry associations, and advocacy groups. Represent NMPF in relevant coalitions and alliances.

Engage in direct advocacy with members of Congress, government agencies, and other decision-makers to influence legislation and regulations that impact the dairy sector.

Collaborate closely with internal teams, including regulatory, trade policy, and communications, to ensure a coordinated and effective approach to policy lobbying.

Proactively identify emerging issues and challenges in the issue portfolio in the dairy industry. Develop and implement strategies to address and resolve these issues.

Plan and participate in advocacy events, hearings, and briefings to promote NMPF’s policy positions and enhance the organization’s visibility on Capitol Hill.

PAC: Participate in planning, strategy, and implementation of events related to NMPF’s Political Action Committee.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, or a related field.
  • Minimum of six years of experience in legislative, government relations, lobbying, or related fields. Experience with or exposure to agricultural labor and nutrition policy is especially welcome.
  • Proven track record of successful advocacy and policy impact at the national level.
  • Strong understanding of the legislative process, regulatory environment, and political landscape related to agriculture and dairy issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze complex issues and develop effective advocacy strategies.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Versatility to manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • Knowledge of the dairy industry and its key players is a plus.
