Reporting to the President and CEO, the Director of Business Development and Marketing is responsible for leading the organization’s marketing, communications, brand, public relations, digital engagement, and sales enablement strategies. This role works closely with the Sales department to drive client growth, strengthen customer relationships, generate qualified leads, support revenue goals, and ensure consistent messaging across all channels. The Director will oversee integrated marketing campaigns, communications programs, content development, digital platforms, advertising, events, and team performance while serving as a strategic partner to executive leadership.

Responsibilities:
Develop and lead the organization’s integrated marketing and communications strategy, ensuring alignment with business development, sales, revenue, and customer retention goals.
Partner closely with the Sales department to create growth-oriented campaigns, lead generation programs, sales materials, customer communications, and market-specific outreach strategies.
Collaborate with the President and CEO and senior leadership to establish annual marketing priorities, communication plans, brand positioning, and measurable performance objectives.
Develop sales forecasts, monitor pipeline performance, establish key performance metrics, and regularly report sales and marketing results to executive leadership while recommending strategies to support continued business growth.
Lead, coach, and manage marketing, communications, sales support, and creative staff to ensure work plans, goals, deadlines, and expectations are met.
Oversee brand messaging, thought leadership initiatives, and ensure consistency across the website, email communications, advertising, public relations, social media, collateral, presentations, events, and all customer-facing materials. Develop and manage multi-channel campaigns, including email marketing, digital advertising, Google Ads, LinkedIn campaigns, newsletters, direct mail, events, trade shows, webinars, and other promotional initiatives.
Use marketing automation, CRM, analytics, and reporting tools, including platforms such as ActOn and Microsoft Dynamics CRM, to manage lead generation, sales pipeline activity, customer retention, segmentation, campaign performance, and customer relationship management. Design and recommend short- and long-term online sales and marketing strategies that improve customer acquisition, engagement, conversion, and overall customer experience.
Oversee the creation, writing, editing, design coordination, production, and distribution of newsletters, e-blasts, public relations articles, sales collateral, literature, mailers, presentations, and campaign assets.
Work with creative, graphics, sales, and external vendors to produce high-quality marketing materials, advertising, exhibit graphics, digital assets, and event support materials.
Manage public relations, media outreach, community relations, customer communications, and reputation-building initiatives that enhance the organization’s visibility and credibility.
Plan and support conferences, seminars, trade shows, sponsorships, customer events, anniversary campaigns, and other activities that promote the company and support sales opportunities.
Conduct market, customer, competitor, and campaign research; develop surveys; analyze results; and translate insights into actionable recommendations for marketing and sales leadership.
Track, measure, and report marketing performance, including campaign ROI, lead quality, pipeline contribution, customer engagement, website activity, and sales enablement effectiveness.
Monitor marketing trends, communications best practices, digital media opportunities, and emerging tools to recommend new approaches that strengthen brand awareness and revenue growth.
Develop and manage marketing budgets, timelines, vendor relationships, advertising placements, production schedules, and project workflows to ensure efficient execution and strong return on investment.
Serve as a collaborative internal consultant to Sales, leadership, product, customer service, and operational teams to ensure communication efforts support organizational priorities and customer needs.
Travel as needed for conferences, seminars, customer meetings, speaking engagements, trade shows, and other business development opportunities.

Qualifications:
Ten or more years of progressively responsible leadership experience in marketing, communications, sales, business development, public relations, or a related field. Demonstrated success developing and executing marketing strategies that support lead generation, customer acquisition, customer retention, and revenue growth.
Experience working closely with sales teams to develop campaigns, collateral, messaging, account support, pipeline-building programs, and customer communications.
Strong understanding of digital marketing, email marketing, website content, CRM systems, marketing automation, online advertising, social media, analytics, and campaign reporting.
Proven ability to lead teams, manage direct reports, coordinate cross-functional projects, and hold staff accountable for goals, deadlines, and quality standards both in person and remotely.
Excellent writing, editing, verbal communication, presentation, and storytelling skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences and channels.
Experience managing budgets, vendors, creative production, advertising placements, events, trade shows, public relations activities, and marketing project timelines.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret campaign results, sales activity, customer feedback, survey findings, and market research to improve performance.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, work independently, solve problems resourcefully, and adapt to changing business needs.
High level of professionalism, executive presence, sound judgment, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative leadership style capable of influencing organizational strategy and driving measurable business results.
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, public relations, journalism, sales, or
a related field required; advanced degree or relevant certifications preferred.
