Chamber of Progress – Director of Economic Policy

Chamber of Progress – a center-left tech industry association – is seeking a Director of Economic Policy to lead our work on an economic and regulatory “abundance” agenda focused on affordable daily life for families.

The costs of housing, groceries, college, child care, college, energy and more have soared over the past few years. Some Democrats blame this rising cost of living on corporate greed, but we view the biggest culprit is a lack of supply of these goods and services.

America needs a bigger supply of housing, workers, transportation, higher education, health care, clean energy, homegrown technology, and services – but the market isn’t providing what’s needed, and government is too often neglecting problems or getting in the way.

The Director of Economic Policy will develop an “abundance and affordability” agenda to increase the supply of goods and services to make daily life more affordable and secure. Our goal is to provide Democratic policymakers with a vision of liberalism that doesn’t just protect and preserve – but also builds.

This role will develop and write an abundance and affordability policy agenda for policymakers at the federal, state and local level; and then promote the agenda and build support for it among Democratic policymakers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the organization’s economic policy work
  • Research, write, and develop a comprehensive center-left abundance & affordability policy agenda, to be released in Summer 2024
  • Build the center-left case for why liberals should focus on an abundance & affordability policy agenda
  • Develop alliances with other proponents of supply-side progressivism
  • Drive a strategy to roll out the abundance & affordability policy agenda
  • Serve as public spokesperson for the abundance & affordability policy agenda
  • Promote the abundance & affordability policy agenda in the media, on social media, and on panels
  • Promote agenda to Biden Administration officials, congressional Democrats, and state officials

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of post-college work experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • Prior experience in economic or innovation policy
  • Policy wonk mindset; outstanding policy analysis skills
  • Proven experience writing and publishing advocacy papers on policy topics
  • Aggressive mindset and bias toward action
  • Creative, strategic thinker
  • Experience in Democratic politics, government, think tanks, or progressive causes
  • Must be located in Washington, DC area

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual salary range of $100,000 – $140,000, based on experience
  • 401(k) retirement program with 4% employer matching
  • Employer subsidized medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 15 days of vacation in the first year of employment
  • 8 paid holidays per year plus the week between Christmas Eve and New Years Day
  • 12 weeks of paid parental leave

About Chamber of Progress

Chamber of Progress (progresschamber.org) is a new center-left tech policy industry coalition working to help usher in a progressive high-tech future and ensure that all Americans benefit from technological leaps.

We’re not just another business group. Everyone knows that a local “chamber of commerce” promotes business and free markets. We’re an industry group, but instead of focusing on commerce, Chamber of Progress is promoting a progressive high-tech society, economy, workforce, and consumer climate.

Chamber of Progress supports public policies promoting:

  • Economic progress: combatting income inequality; promoting a bigger, modern social safety net; encouraging progressive taxation; and supporting reliable, win-win online marketplaces;
  • Social progress: promoting inclusive democracy; supporting bold action against climate change; promoting digital opportunity for all; and advocating for healthy and equitable online communities.
  • Consumer progress: promoting the principle that tech should always serve consumers’ interests; “building back better” by investing in communities and regulated innovation; increasing access to goods and information; and balancing consumer and worker concerns.
