POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director of Government Affairs is responsible for the development and execution of strategies to engage with government entities at the local, state, and federal levels to advocate for policies that support our business objectives and promote responsible gaming practices.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following and other duties may be assigned as necessary:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive government relations strategies aligned with the company’s goals and objectives
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments at the local, state, and federal levels impacting the hotel and casino industry
  • Identify opportunities and risks related to proposed legislation and regulations and provide recommendations to senior management accordingly
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key government officials, legislators, regulatory agencies, and industry stakeholders
  • Represent the company’s interests in legislative and regulatory proceedings, hearings, and meetings
  • Advocate for policies that promote a favorable business environment while ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations
  • Develop and recommend strategies to address regulatory challenges and mitigate risks associated with non-compliance
  • Stay abreast of changes in gaming regulations and industry best practices
  • Participate in state and local political events, industry conferences, and trade associations to enhance the company’s reputation and visibility
  • Prepare regular reports and updates for senior management on legislative and regulatory developments, advocacy efforts, and compliance initiatives
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including government officials, industry partners, and advocacy groups
  • Coordinate property visits, tours, and on-site meetings with external stakeholders, including government officials, industry partners, and advocacy groups
  • Temporary or permanent duties and responsibilities may be added to or modified as deemed necessary

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor’s Degree in in political science, public administration, law, or related field; advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or related roles, preferably in the hospitality or gaming industry
  • Strong understanding of the legislative and regulatory processes at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with government officials, industry stakeholders, and community leaders.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and strategic thinking.
  • Knowledge of gaming regulations and compliance requirements preferred.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to ethical conduct.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Ability to provide leadership and direction contributing to the success of the organization through engaging, developing, and mentoring individuals and teams
  • Ability to travel to state or federal meetings or events to represent the organization

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES                  

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Member must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state, and local regulations.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and communicate verbally in English. Written communication skills in English may also be required.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the Member is regularly required to stand and use hands and fingers to handle or utilize objects, tools, or controls. The Member frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision.

 

The Member must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and must have the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces.
