Position Overview

Director of Public Affairs & Communications

The Director of Public Affairs & Communications is responsible for developing and executing strategies to support AV’s policy and advocacy goals. Based in Washington, D.C., and reporting to the Vice President, Communications, this role leads public affairs efforts for key programmatic areas including Higher Education, Infrastructure, Public Finance, and more.

Core Responsibilities

• Understanding: Grasp key policy issues at federal and state levels.
• Strategy Development: Create and implement effective public affairs strategies.
• Content Creation: Draft materials including press releases, social media content, and speeches.
• Leadership: Drive thought leadership initiatives and review grantee communications.
• Monitoring: Track media coverage and trends, providing insights.
• Collaboration: Coordinate strategies across teams to align with foundation goals.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 10 years in communications, public affairs, or related fields.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields.
• Specialization: Experience in Higher Education, Infrastructure, or Public Finance preferred.
• Expertise: Deep understanding of policy issues and legislative processes.
• Skills: Strong writing, editing, presentation, and strategic planning abilities.
