Position Summary
Walmart is seeking a strategic, experienced, and mission-driven Director of Federal Government Affairs to lead our advocacy and engagement on key healthcare issues in Washington, DC.
This Director, Federal Government Affairs will serve as the company’s lead lobbyist on federal healthcare policy, representing Walmart before Congress, the Administration, and key stakeholders. The Director will also act as a trusted advisor to internal teams, helping shape Walmart’s healthcare strategy through policy insight and engagement.
What You’ll Do
Lead Walmart’s advocacy on federal healthcare policy issues before Congress, the Administration (e.g., CMS, HHS), and other key stakeholders.
Develop and execute a strategic engagement plan for legislative and regulatory issues impacting Walmart’s healthcare business and Benefits team.
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including the Health & Wellness business and Benefits team, to align policy strategy with business priorities.
Monitor, analyze, and provide guidance on federal legislation and regulations related, but not limited, to employer-sponsored insurance plans, reimbursement systems, Medicare, Medicaid, and pharmacy operations.
Lead Walmart’s advocacy efforts to expand pharmacist scope of practice and improve access to care in underserved communities.
Support Walmart’s engagement on nutrition policy and healthcare access initiatives.
Provide timely policy updates, strategic counsel, and risk assessments to executive leadership.
Represent Walmart in external forums, including industry coalitions, trade associations, and public policy events.
What You’ll Bring
Deep expertise across both employer-sponsored benefits (ERISA, group health plans, PBM dynamics) and traditional health policy areas (Medicare, Medicaid, pharmacy, and broader healthcare delivery and financing) to inform and advance company strategy in health and wellness.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in leading healthcare policy, with direct experience on Capitol Hill or in a federal healthcare agency (e.g., HHS, CMS).
Strong understanding of the federal legislative and regulatory process.
Demonstrated experience in healthcare policy areas such as employer-sponsored insurance, reimbursement systems, pharmacy regulation, and health equity.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex policy issues into actionable insights.
Proven ability to build relationships, lead cross-functional teams, influence across diverse stakeholders.
Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in public policy, public health, or a related field preferred.

Compensation:
Annual salary range: $143,000–$286,000
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
Additional compensation for certain positions may also include stock.
