Job Summary
Are you passionate about the intersection of advertising, media, and technology? The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) is seeking a Director of Public Policy to lead and execute public policy and advocacy priorities that support the digital advertising and media industry.
In this role, you will work closely with federal and state policymakers, analyze legislative and regulatory activity, and help drive policy initiatives that impact the digital marketplace. You will play a key role in building relationships with lawmakers and stakeholders to advocate for the IAB’s agenda. This position reports to the Executive Vice President of Public Policy and is based in Washington, DC.
What You’ll Do
Policy Development and Advocacy
- Assist in developing public policy positions that address the concerns of our membership, including related research, communications, and events.
- Serve as a registered lobbyist before Congress, advocating with members and staff to advance our policy agenda, particularly on data privacy and related issues.
- Perform detailed analysis of legislation, regulation, and self-regulatory proposals to inform engagement on policies impacting digital advertising.
Member Engagement
- Provide IAB members with regular updates on policy developments and their implications for the ad-supported internet ecosystem.
- Build and maintain relationships with key federal and state policymakers to influence legislative outcomes.
Who You Are
- You have at least 5 years of public policy or government relations experience, ideally with a focus on the digital advertising industry or internet/technology policy.
- You hold a Bachelor’s Degree and possess a strong knowledge of the digital advertising landscape.
- You are an effective communicator with outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
- You can comfortably interact at all corporate and political levels, translating complex information into easily understandable messaging.
- You are a self-starter capable of taking direction and producing results.
- You excel at analyzing legislative and regulatory proposals and understanding their business implications.
- You demonstrate high ethical standards, confidentiality, and integrity in all interactions.
- You possess strong political acumen and decision-making skills, with the ability to influence and persuade others in high-stakes situations.
- You have experience in advocacy and using rhetoric to inform and persuade varied audiences.
Additional Qualifications
- Proven track record working within government, companies, consultancies, trade associations, or similar organizations.
- Skilled at navigating steep learning curves and quickly adapting to new challenges.
- Willing and able to travel as required.
