Environment America is a policy and action group dedicated to addressing the profound issue of our time: a lifestyle that is devastating the natural world. Our federal legislative advocate will operate in Washington, DC, advocating for new legislation in Congress and actions by President Biden to safeguard our planet.

Join our team to:

  • Expand renewable energy, keeping oil in the ground and halting fossil fuel combustion.
  • Secure safe habitats for wildlife to flourish.
  • Advocate for an ocean free from plastic pollution and offshore drilling.
  • Defend the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act.

Representative Responsibilities

The Federal Legislative Advocate at Environment America will work to advance our policy objectives in Washington, DC. You’ll identify opportunities for progress in Congress and the Biden administration, collaborating with our national and state directors to advocate for our vision and garner the necessary support. Key responsibilities include:

  • Advocacy: Engage with members of Congress and the Biden administration to push for robust environmental policies. Cultivate relationships with legislators and federal agencies.
  • Coalition Building: Represent Environment America in coalitions, recruiting new partners, even those with differing views on some issues.
  • Fundraising: Raise funds from foundations and individual donors to support our campaigns and expand our impact.
  • Media and Communications: Craft various forms of communication to disseminate our message to decision-makers and the public.
  • Campaign Strategy: Develop and implement campaign plans in coordination with state and national leadership.
  • Staff Recruitment and Management: Recruit and manage interns and contribute to staff recruitment efforts.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will possess excellent writing and public speaking skills, a minimum of two years of experience in organizing, advocacy, campaigning, or legislative work, and a commitment to long-term goals. Ideal candidates will also exhibit:

  • Resilience: Prepared to face challenges and work persistently towards goals.
  • Capacity to Build a Movement: Excited to engage with diverse stakeholders to advance environmental protection.
  • Organizational and Strategic Skills: Ability to plan for long-term success and manage competing priorities effectively.

Benefits

Compensation and Benefits: Starting compensation ranges from $36,000 to $60,000, depending on experience and location.
