## Job Purpose
The **State Affairs Specialist** supports Honda’s business objectives by monitoring, analyzing, and communicating state‑level policy developments, and by advancing Honda’s public policy priorities through informed advocacy, analysis, and stakeholder engagement.
## Key Accountabilities
– **Legislation Monitoring** — Monitor, read, analyze, and track state legislation, regulations, and political activities to assess potential impacts, risks, and opportunities for Honda’s business operations and public policy objectives.
– **Political Trend Analysis** — Identify and share political trends and analysis on select issues with key GIR leadership, business units, and internal stakeholders.
– **Strategy Support** — Support development and execution of state government affairs strategies by contributing research, policy analysis, proposed positions, and supporting materials aligned with Honda’s advocacy priorities.
– **Legislative Engagement** — Engage directly with state legislators, legislative staff, and government officials to communicate Honda’s public policy positions, educate policymakers on Honda initiatives, and serve as a point of contact on state‑level issues.
– **Stakeholder Coordination** — Coordinate with trade associations, coalitions, and industry partners to share Honda’s policy positions and support advocacy efforts aligned with Honda’s objectives.
– **Cross‑Functional Collaboration** — Collaborate with GIR leadership, Legal, Compliance, Policy Communications, and business unit subject matter experts to ensure accurate interpretation of legislation and consistency of messaging.
– **Research & Briefings** — Conduct research, prepare briefings, and support special projects, task forces, or cross‑functional initiatives related to state government affairs as assigned.
## Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
– Four‑year college degree in Government, Business, Journalism, Communications, Public Policy, Pre‑law, or a related field.
– Five plus years of experience working in state or local government affairs, public policy, legislative tracking, trade associations, government offices, lobbying firms, legal analysis, or related political or regulatory environments.
– Demonstrated ability to read, analyze, and interpret legislation and regulatory language.
– Strong understanding of state‑level legislative and political processes.
– Ability to communicate complex policy impacts clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
– Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
– High attention to detail and accuracy.
– Ability to work collaboratively across functions and adapt to changing priorities.
– Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
