Overview

Not In Our Town (NIOT) is an Oakland, CA based non-profit project launched in 1995 that works with schools and communities across the country to stop hate, racism, and bias, and build safe, inclusive communities.

The Engagement Project Manager will coordinate and help lead NIOT’s two primary projects in hate crime response and prevention: Hate and Bias Action Teams and United Against Hate Week. United Against Hate Week is a collaborative effort by communities around the country to host anti-hate/pro-inclusion events in their cities each Fall. Hate and Bias Action Teams is a pilot project in 2 cities that convenes stakeholders to improve hate and bias reporting and community engagement activities that focus on response and support for hate crime victims and groups targeted by hate and bias.


Job Description

The Project Manager will coordinate training and meetings, coordinate materials development, production and distribution, host and convene statewide and regional events online and occasionally in person.

Responsibilities include:

Qualifications

Required:

  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively
  • Minimum five years community engagement experience and/or work in local government
  • Excellent organization skills and an attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, exercising initiative and sound judgment
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Experience working with diverse communities
  • Event management
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to and experience with social issue-driven work
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (position requires some regional travel)
  • Data management and Computer proficiency including experience with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Project); Google suite, Constant Contact, Squarespace, and InDesign (optional)

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with and interest in using film, media and social networks in engagement
  • Experience working with local media organizations
  • Multilingual/Bilingual

This is a 1.0 FTE staff position through 2025. Ability to work remotely essential, but some in-person engagement is required. Salary DOE.
