# Strategic Assessment SME – MITRE Office of the Secretary of War Program Division
The MITRE Office of the Secretary of War Program Division is seeking an experienced strategic assessment subject matter expert to support wargaming, assessments, and exercises for a broad set of existing sponsors across OUSW(A&S), OUSW(Policy), Military Departments, and Combatant Commands.

This position requires a visionary leader able to conduct comparative assessments, shape strategy, and develop future warfighting concepts. This role involves analysis of strategies, supporting programs with allies and partners, and leading analytic efforts aligned to the National Defense Strategy. A successful candidate will seek out and shape strategic opportunities for MITRE to contribute to Department of War critical needs and bridge the gap between MITRE’s technical depth and military operational and tactical imperatives.

# Roles & Responsibilities
– Working with Project Leads, MITRE OSW Program Leadership, OUSW (A&S), and OSW Policy government leadership to shape the MITRE work program and customer strategy.
– Data‑driven assessments of national defense strategies and supporting programs with allies and partners.
– Assessing threats and conceiving concepts to shape investments for future advantage against them.
– Leveraging relationships across various organizations across the DoW and MITRE to bring forward innovative solutions.
– Building and maintaining trusted advisor relationships with customers and key stakeholders across the Army, OSW, Joint Staff, Combatant Commands, and allied/partner organizations.
– Supporting critical sponsor goals and outcomes by on‑time delivery of high‑quality data‑driven technical products.
– Working in partnership with individual task leads to identify and improve the quality of data‑driven technical products.

# Basic Qualifications
– Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
– Experience working with Indo‑Pacific countries on defense matters, including security cooperation.
– Extensive knowledge of Indo‑Pacific security affairs, especially the U.S.–PRC military balance.
– Possess a broad network of U.S., allied, and partner security (uniformed and civilian) officials.
– Able to articulate historical and likely future U.S. regional interests and knowledgeably speculate on allied/partner interests.
– Experience leading projects and multi‑disciplinary teams.
– Ability to build and maintain trusted advisor relationships with customers and key stakeholders.
– Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
– U.S. Citizenship required.
– This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on‑site presence.

# Preferred Qualifications
– Experience with National Defense Strategy implementation, including military, economic, and political understanding to inform investments, priorities, and decisions.
– Experience working with high‑level DoD officials.
– Current TS/SCI.

# Clearance Requirements
**Minimum clearance required:** Secret
**Clearance required within one year of hire:** Top Secret/SCI

# Salary Compensation Range
$161,600 – $202,000 – $242,400 Annual
