Role Summary
Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, The Cigna Group has an exciting opportunity for a seasoned, strategic communications professional to join our team. The scope of the Internal Communications Managing Director is significant and includes: accountability for developing, shaping and driving internal communications strategies that inform, engage and inspire employees at all levels; providing strategic counsel and being a thought partner to the Chief Human Resources Officer, Chief Communications Officer and Enterprise Leadership Team; quarterbacking key initiatives and projects such as: employee engagement strategy launches, enterprise town halls, intranet engagement strategy and others. This business-critical role is essential as we seek to advance The Cigna Group’s business priorities and employee engagement, while ensuring consistent messaging aligned to our mission and values.
This individual is also responsible for executive communications for the Chief Human Resources Officer and communications for the HR&S function, leader communications, and inclusion communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Accountable for building internal communications strategies that safeguard and advance the company’s business priorities, while ensuring consistent messaging aligned to The Cigna Group’s mission and values.
- Serve as a strategist and thought partner to the Chief Communications Officer and leadership team.
- Provide strategic communications consulting and problem-solving solutions on the most complex issues to senior leaders.
- Oversee the creation and distribution of internal communications materials across all channels – email, intranet, digital signage, employee events, etc.
- Design and execute initiatives to promote employee engagement.
- Develop and deliver communications strategies during organizational changes and other times of transition to ensure employee understanding and buy-in.
- Manage internal communications during crisis situations, providing timely and accurate information to employees.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues across the Communications team to ensure cross-functional team alignment with communications strategy and priorities.
- Serve as the communications leader for HR&S and the Inclusion team, developing strategic communications plans and leading the development and execution of comprehensive, high-quality communications for key internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead a strong and experienced team through the development and execution of a wide variety of internal communication activities and tactics, such as town halls, leadership meetings, internal and external leadership presentations, reputation management initiatives, and external thought leadership.
- Serve as the primary communications partner for The Cigna Group Chief Human Resources Officer, and lead a team to support their function and their leaders, providing counsel on solutions that help achieve business objectives.
- Monitor and evaluate results of communications programs, using specific metrics to track progress and insights for continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications or related discipline and at least 15+ years’ experience in a corporate communications, government or pharmaceutical communications, or public relations agency setting.
- Strong writing and editing skills a must; ability to write for a variety of audiences across multiple communication channels/vehicles, including online, broadcast and social media.
- Experience leading a highly talented and experienced team along with external agency communications partners.
- A strategic thinker with the ability to translate highly complex, technical content into concise and succinct stories.
- Experience in working closely with senior executives and providing communications counsel.
- A record of success in juggling multiple projects and deadlines, and working in a highly-matrixed, deadline-sensitive environment.
- Comfortable working with ambiguous scenarios with the ability to pivot directions as needed.
- Proactive self-starter who demonstrates good judgment as well as tact and discretion to work with Cigna employees at all levels.
- Strong creative skills, including with visual communications to convey strategies and messages; and experience in internal and external event planning and messaging.
