KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE MANAGER AND/OR SENIOR MANAGER, EXTERNAL AFFAIRS

EEI is looking to add a Manager and/or Senior Manager, External Affairs to our Office of External Affairs team. In this role, the individual will be responsible for leading and managing outreach efforts with local elected officials, key constituencies, and stakeholder organizations.

  • Coordinate with internal departments on developing relationships, outreach strategy, and setting priorities for EEI’s engagement at the local and community level.
  • Work with member companies, government officials, community leaders, advocacy organizations, and other stakeholders as needed to support EEI membership and direct policy development and support at the local level.
  • In coordination with the Managing Director, External Affairs, lead and manage outreach efforts with local elected officials, key constituencies, stakeholder organizations, and civic groups. Serve as a spokesperson for the industry, representing EEI and its members to stakeholder organizations.
  • Coordinate and work closely with other EEI departments on developing policy positions, building relationships, outreach strategy, and setting priorities for EEI’s engagement at the local and community level.
  • Manage the Local Issues Subcommittee and develop programming and strategy for EEI member company local engagement and policy development.
  • Coordinate and work closely with other EEI departments to develop policy papers, one-pagers, and educational programming for EEI membership and/or local leaders related to key industry issues that affect energy companies and communities.
  • Work with the Managing Director, External Affairs to manage the budget and consultants to support engagements, strategy development, and execution.
  • Manage and develop EEI’s Corporate Citizenship Award and additional programming, research, and support for members as requested.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant applicable experience.
  • Proficient in time management, prioritizing workload, and multitasking while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Creative thinker who can identify and create opportunities and find innovative solutions.
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office).
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Exceptional writing, listening, and communication skills to convey important information effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively with a broad range of staff.
  • Preference for candidates with established relationships with key stakeholder organizations, including:
    • National Association of Counties
    • National League of Cities
    • U.S. Conference of Mayors
    • Community Leaders of America
    • Democratic Mayors Association
    • National Utility Diversity Council

COMPENSATION

  • The salary range for the Manager role is $80,000 – $125,000.
  • The salary range for the Senior Manager role is $100,000 – $150,000.

Starting annual salary will be determined by individual qualifications. EEI also offers an annual performance incentive, typically up to 10% of the base salary, which is prorated for mid-year start dates. We offer a competitive benefits package that includes:
