Overall Description of the Position

The ESOP Association (TEA) is the leading national trade and professional association representing employee-owned companies and the professionals who provide services to those companies (such as attorneys, accountants, financial advisors, and trustees). The ESOP Association is headquartered in Washington, DC.

The Marketing and Communications Content Manager will work with each department, volunteers, and members within The ESOP Association and the Employee Ownership Foundation (EOF) to develop news, educational publications, marketing materials, and other content that requires writing or scripting.

This position requires a detail-oriented individual who has the knowledge and capability to gather information through research and conversations and synthesize that information into writing both long-form and short-form resources and articles, publications, and talking points or presentations. This individual must be approachable and able to cultivate relationships with their colleagues, Association volunteer leaders, and TEA members.

The Marketing and Communications Content Manager must be a person who acts consistently with the values of TEA as expressed through the Association’s vision, mission, and culture. The Manager is an approachable individual with excellent communication skills, is a self-starter who is diligent and accurate with their work, can adhere to deadlines, and has strong project management skills.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Copywriting and Editing

  • Collect and research information to develop written content for various publications and media that is accessible and consumable by all members.
  • Develop or edit content for educational and marketing materials.
  • Work with TEA volunteers to ensure educational materials are accurate.
  • Write articles for publications including the Association’s monthly newsletter, The ESOP Report, Annual Reports, and other long-format publications.
  • Edit session descriptions for educational event programs.
  • Write marketing copy and bullets.
  • Assist with scriptwriting for conferences and events as needed.

Email

  • Work with the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications in the development of timelines, content, and global workflow for marketing emails.
  • Create and schedule outgoing emails using engagement platform software.
  • Work with colleagues to ensure spelling and grammar are corrected before sending.
  • Work with email and other engagement platform technical support to resolve any issues the staff or members may be having.

Community Platform Management (The HUB)

  • Monitor/manage the Association’s members-only HUB community boards in the engagement platform software.
  • Create posts to share content or respond to questions regarding TEA, EOF, or any of the events and programs.
  • Work with the head of each department to open event community boards, post event/program deadlines and reminders, and develop ideas for creating community engagement.
  • Direct posts requiring in-depth response to the appropriate individuals and ensure timely responses.
  • Work with engagement platform technical support to resolve any issues the staff or members may be having.

Social Media

  • Assist in maintaining substantive content presence on the various channels for both TEA and EOF, including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, YouTube, etc.
  • Work with the Senior Director of Visual and Graphic Communications to push audio, visual, and graphic content out on appropriate social platforms to obtain the greatest reach for the intended audience.
  • Develop a schedule based on marketing needs or events/programs.
  • Support day-to-day oversight and execution of social media advertising.

Attributes/Skills

  • Ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging content.
  • Strong research skills to ensure content is accurate, relevant, and updated.
  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence applications and their uses to streamline content development and deployment.
  • Project management abilities to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with team members and external partners.
  • Detail-oriented and adaptable, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Degree in marketing, writing, English, journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with a strong portfolio of work. Must demonstrate writing examples.
  • Experience with Higher Logic email marketing and engagement platform software is a plus but not required.

Work Environment/Conditions

Only local candidates who are comfortable commuting to our office will be considered. Our office is located in Washington, DC, between Union Station and Chinatown metro stations.
