API is seeking a Manager, Media Relations & Editorial to serve as primary point of contact and
spokesperson for API, working with API’s executive team, member companies and
the issues management and rapid response teams to develop and execute winning
communications strategies and inform the media conversation. Monitor traditional, digital and
social media and identify and create opportunities to shape local, state and
national news and editorial coverage . Leverage message testing and research
analysis to insert industry messaging in developing stories and/or place
proactive stories and editorial narratives that advance API priorities . Correct and/or push back against negative
stories and narratives . Write, edit and oversee creation of media
materials – including but not limited to talking points, statements, social
media posts, fact sheets, press releases, et al. Pitch and prepare senior executives
for media opportunities with materials and training sessions. Provide support to Director of
Communications in managing media team responsibilities, inquiries, and
responses among other issues . Work with state and federal relations,
mobilization and policy teams to craft strategies and opportunities to share comment
on policy as well as new data, new narratives, and new allies, including elevating
the work of API’s Chief Economist and policy analysis team

Work collaboratively with state petroleum councils on API’s key issues to ensure proper support at the state
level on communications and messaging

 

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION 

Requires 8-10 years of experience in a
communications, public relations, or journalism field. Superior verbal and
written communications. Background
working in a fast-paced environment as well as a strong expertise working with the
media and within the social media landscape. Requires excellent judgment and decision-making
skills.
