Arnold & Porter – Policy Advisor (Legislative and Public Policy Practice Group)
Arnold & Porter is seeking a Policy Advisor for the Legislative and Public Policy Practice Group in its Washington, D.C. office.
Qualified candidates must have a minimum of eight years of experience working in Congress, an Executive branch department or agency, or in a government relations role on behalf of an association, interest group, or company. Experience working on energy, tax, technology, and/or trade policy matters is preferred.
The Legislative and Public Policy Practice Group of Arnold & Porter is Chambers-rated as one of the top legislative practices at a national law firm. The group is comprised of approximately 40 people and works in a high-energy, fast-paced environment that rewards initiative and teamwork in the pursuit of quality client service.
The primary focus of the group is Congressional and regulatory advocacy on behalf of:
- Globally recognized brands
- Fortune 500 companies
- Innovative start-ups
- Leading associations
- Utilities
- Large manufacturers
- Healthcare systems
- Educational institutions
- Units of local government
- Foreign governments
- Coalitions
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum of eight (8) years of experience working in Congress, the Executive branch, or in government relations at a relevant nonprofit or for-profit company, trade association, or interest group
- Well-versed in the federal legislative and regulatory process
- Demonstrated policy expertise in more than one of the following areas:
- Energy
- Environmental
- Tax
- Technology and telecommunications policy
- Trade policy
- Ability to develop and execute a strategic advocacy plan
- Strong strategic focus, self-motivation, and drive to action
- Ability to work independently as well as on a team
- Experience managing junior-level staff
- Capable of leading client service teams on specific issues
- Strong ability to communicate clearly and effectively, in oral and written form
- Significant attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality deliverables
- Strong judgment and decision-making skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Willing to be registered for firm clients under both the Lobbying Disclosure Act and the Foreign Agents Registration Act

Compensation
The anticipated base salary for this position is $165,000 to $225,000.
The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to:
- Qualifications of the individual applicant
- Years of relevant experience
- Level of education attained
- Certifications or other professional licenses held
- Location from which the applicant will be performing the job
