The American Urological Association (AUA), the premier urologic association providing support to the urologic community, is currently searching for an energetic, detail-oriented candidate for our Policy and Advocacy Specialist position located in our Linthicum, Maryland office.

In General

This position is an entry-level policy and advocacy position that supports the Policy and Advocacy Department. The position performs both administrative, policy analysis, and research tasks to support our policy and advocacy strategies in conjunction with patient and physician advocacy organizations, researchers, federal agencies, and coalitions.


The individual in this position will, but not limited to:

  • Supports the department with preparing meeting minutes for the Research Advocacy Committee meetings and overseeing travel reimbursement.
  • Provides meeting preparation support for Coding and Reimbursement Committee meeting, Regulatory Workgroup, American Medical Association RUC, and CPT, National Insurer Advisory Workgroup, and Urology Telehealth Task Force meetings and conference calls.
  • Support outreach and communication to Patient Advocacy Connections Program participants, Bladder Health Alliance, and AUA-led coalitions; includes providing program support for meeting materials and logistics.
  • Support and maintain patient advocacy contact list and track partner priorities and key events.
  • Assists department with monitoring policy developments on a national level among federal and other medical organizations. This may include using database subscriptions such as Policy Reporter.
  • Prepare and distribute weekly communications for the urologic advocacy community including online communications platform and weekly newsletter.
  • Participate in Alliance and Coalition webinars and teleconferences as needed.
  • Assist the department with drafting fact sheets, talking points, and informational articles.

Candidates must be able to provide superior service delivery to internal and external customers while working in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.  It is essential that the individual in this role have strong organizational, project management, and communication skills.  In addition:

Bachelor’s degree required.

  1. Minimum 2 years of work experience.
  2. Good oral and written communication skills.
  3. Experience in working with cross-functional teams within organization preferred.
  4. Knowledge of health policy issues preferred.
