Policy Analyst
Position Details
SUMMARY
Prestigious bipartisan government affairs firm is seeking an experienced and reliable Policy Analyst to join our policy team, and work with our bipartisan lobbyists to provide written reports and substantive analyses for a very stable and growing client base of Fortune 500 companies, trade associations, and leading foundations. The Analyst will focus on a variety of policy issues and work with the firm’s clients and be expected to cover a wide range of policy issues including financial services, energy, environment, taxes, technology, and trade.
Successful candidates should have expertise in federal policy matters. They also must have outstanding writing skills, strong organizational skills, the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, balance competing priorities, excellent research, and analytical skills, and pay close attention to detail. Additionally, candidates should have solid political awareness, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently, as well as in a team-oriented, collaborative manner. Knowledge of or experience working in Congress and/or the Executive branch of the federal government is a plus. A graduate level degree demonstrating interest in and knowledge of public policy issues, government, and/or writing also is a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Develop and maintain legislative bill trackers and bill analysis on a wide range of issues, including energy & environment; tech & telecom; transportation; and healthcare.
· Research, prepare and disseminate original, firm-produced content for clients and other relevant stakeholders.
· Oversight of Congressional hearings, mark-ups and other Congressional and Administration activities, meetings, and briefings of interest to firm clients, including timely and accurate hearing summaries, legislative updates, and other information.
· Work with firm lobbyists on a wide variety of issues to develop legislation briefing analyses, background research, proposals, and other required written materials.
· Conduct research on potential clients and create pre-pitch materials for the lobbying team.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
· The ability to track legislation, as well as policy and regulatory changes, in a timely manner.
· The ability to write comprehensive research memos on topics that include pending legislation, political races, policy developments, and regulatory updates.
· The ability to respond to a wide variety of inquiries on different issue areas from multiple sources with confidence and professionalism.
· Strong working knowledge of Capitol Hill and/or the Administration.
· Positive, flexible attitude, creative problem-solving and organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks with excellent attention to detail; must follow through in a timely manner, completing tasks without prompting.
· Demonstrate a high degree of integrity when dealing with people from a broad array of backgrounds and cultures.
· Ability to establish effective working relationships with firm lobbyists, staff, clients, and stakeholders at all levels.
· Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills.
· Excellent skills using Microsoft office, Zoom, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, and others.
