Policy Director – Market Regulation and Workers Compensation
The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) has a full-time remote opportunity for a Policy Director – Market Regulation and Workers Compensation. This position effectively advocates the membership’s interests through written communication and oral testimony, coordinates with the public policy division on issue development, and serves as an ‘in-department’ market conduct and regulation expert to drive NAMIC’s initiatives around workers compensation.
Responsibilities
- Serves as a Subject Matter Expert on legislative and regulatory developments at all levels of government and as a resource for NAMIC Federal & State Affairs staff and member company staff.
- Serves as an integral part of the NAMIC Public Policy Team to ensure comprehensive issue coverage in conjunction with all Federal & State Affairs advocates.
- Manages market regulation, workers compensation issue portfolios, and related member engagement. Assists in management of the data privacy portfolio of issues and serves as second policy issue expert.
- Develops issue management and expertise as needed in emerging insurance issues.
- Establishes and maintains positive contacts with insurance regulators to advocate NAMIC’s strategic regulatory objectives; serves as an active, visible industry representative at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
- Identifies and develops emerging market issues of priority to member companies.
- Develops position papers, testimonies, and other advocacy pieces on issues of expertise as needed.
- Communicates on relevant issues to NAMIC membership in an effective, readily understandable manner through oral presentations, written articles, issue briefs, NAMIC web content, or other relevant NAMIC media publications.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience working in insurance regulation or market regulation on behalf of the insurance industry.
- Familiarity with the property/casualty insurance industry required.
- Experience in issue management pertaining to market regulation and workers compensation required.
- Prior experience in advocacy before government organizations preferred.
- Familiarity with trade associations preferred.
- Flexibility to travel on an “as needed” basis, up to about 30 percent of the time.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
- Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.
