Job Description

As a valued contributor to our team, you will serve as a public policy expert and strategic lead for key industry groups and external stakeholders. In this role, you will monitor, analyze and interpret public policy developments; understand and summarize events or information that affect Fannie Mae’s mission; and support efforts to identify opportunities, mitigate risks and advance the organization’s strategic priorities. You will work across the enterprise to ensure senior leadership has timely, actionable insights that support decision-making in a dynamic environment.

The Principal – Public Policy and Industry Relations role will offer you the flexibility to make each day your own while working alongside people who care so that you can deliver on the following responsibilities:

Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments and advise management on the impact to the organization.

Work cross-functionally across the business to advise teams on matters that could have implications to the company.

Serve as lead contact for certain industry groups and represent the company at key events and stakeholder meetings.

Draft written updates and brief members of senior management on critical and emerging issues (hearings, meetings, etc.).

THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

Minimum Required Experiences

8 years of mortgage policy experience providing advice and support in a corporate, advocacy, government, or law firm environment.

Demonstrated experience managing legislative issues and an understanding of how legislation may apply to Fannie Mae’s products, technology, and services.

Ability to distill complex topics, provide clear options, and coordinate with third parties such as industry stakeholders and our regulator.

Strong business acumen and excellent analytical skills.

Extensive verbal and written presentation skills are essential with the ability to adapt messages to various target audiences, including top executives.

Strong writing skills with the ability to concisely translate nuanced information under tight timeframes (e.g. legislative initiatives, policy proposals, etc.)

Strong relationship-building skills; proven experience as a trusted advisor across an enterprise.

Possess the skills and demeanor to have difficult conversations, speak candidly and effect change.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.

Desired Experiences

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

Proven experience leading teams and/or large projects is highly desirable.

Target Pay Range: $196,000.00 – $264,000.00 a year

The hiring range for this role is set forth below. Final salaries will generally vary within that range based on factors that include but are not limited to, skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and other relevant qualifications. This position is eligible to participate in a Fannie Mae incentive program (subject to the terms of the program).
