General Summary
The PR and Media Relations Coordinator at Bayhealth plays a crucial role in enhancing the organization’s public image and promoting its services through strategic communication initiatives. Reporting to the Strategic Communications Supervisor, the coordinator is responsible for developing and managing a comprehensive storytelling strategy across earned, shared, and owned channels, ensuring alignment with integrated marketing and communications plans. This position involves creating engaging content, managing media relations, and collaborating with various departments to maintain consistent messaging that reflects Bayhealth’s mission of providing exceptional healthcare.
The coordinator actively develops and executes proactive media relations strategies aimed at securing high-profile placements in print, broadcast, and online media, thereby driving brand awareness and attracting new patients. Responsibilities include crafting and distributing effective communication materials, coordinating executive interviews, and managing media inquiries. By sharing Bayhealth’s story in a compelling manner, the coordinator supports community engagement initiatives and contributes to achieving departmental KPIs and desired ROI.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement public relations strategies to promote Bayhealth’s programs, services, and events.
- Develop media relations strategy, seeking high-level placements in print, broadcast, and online media. Cultivate new contacts with media and coordinate all aspects of executive and spokesperson interviews.
- Serve as the primary contact for media inquiries 24/7, monitoring media phone hotline and media relations email box. Build and maintain positive relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets. Coordinate and manage editorial board meetings to discuss healthcare trends, policy initiatives, and public health issues relevant to the community to foster media relationships and influence editorial perspectives through dialogue and information-sharing.
- Draft and distribute news releases, media holding statements, Op-Eds, letters to the editor, media advisories, media kits, and other promotional materials to effectively communicate key messages.
- Monitor media coverage and prepare reports to evaluate the effectiveness of communication efforts.
- Manage and maintain the Standard Operating Procedure for media access to Bayhealth hospitals. Ensure compliance with protocols for media engagement during routine and crisis situations, facilitating positive media coverage while prioritizing hospital safety and patient privacy.
- Manage the production and publishing of the monthly Community Health & Wellness e-newsletter. Work with members of the Marketing and Communications team to ensure consistency in messaging and tie-in to larger brand and marketing campaigns.
- Collaborate with members of the Marketing and Communications team and internal stakeholders to create compelling content for news releases, newsletters, social media, and the Bayhealth website.
- Develop and execute executive thought leadership strategies. Work closely with Bayhealth leadership to identify opportunities for public speaking, media interviews, and opinion pieces, positioning executives as industry leaders and enhancing the organization’s reputation within the healthcare community.
- Develop external-facing executive communications, including talking points, speeches, and presentations for Bayhealth’s executive leaders for external audiences. Ensure messaging reflects the organization’s mission, enhances brand reputation, and engages stakeholders at public events, conferences, and media appearances.
- Promote community events and health awareness campaigns.
- Support crisis communication efforts and ensure timely dissemination of information during emergencies.
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices in public relations and media relations.
- All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
Required Education, Credentials, and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing.
- Credentials: None required.
- Experience: Five years of corporate communications, public relations, journalism, or publishing experience.
Preferred Education, Credentials, and Experience
- Education: Master’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
- Credentials: Public Relations Society of America certification.
- Experience: Seven years of corporate communications, public relations, journalism, publishing, and multimedia experience with a demonstrated track record of success.
