The American Hospital Association (AHA) is a national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities. The AHA has two main offices, located in Washington, D.C. and Chicago. We are currently seeking a Senior Associate Director, Physician Payment Policy for our Washington, D.C. office. This position is a hybrid role (three days in the office, two days working remote).

Starting base salary = $159,000 – $199,000 – $239,000 (commensurate with related experience). The AHA is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. A candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and location.

The Senior Associate Director, Physician Payment Policy is responsible for advancing the AHA’s policy and advocacy agenda related to alternative payment models, telehealth, and Medicare physician and allied health payment issues. This role enables the AHA to have a positive impact on the political and policy environment facing its members, fosters support and understanding among members, and assists members in interpreting and thriving in that environment. The individual will partner with others in the association on these issues and represent the AHA in public forums, interacting with AHA members, Hill staff, federal agency staff, and other relevant organizations.

Essential Functions

  • Manage health policy issues, including alternative payment models, telehealth, and Medicare physician and allied health payment issues, for AHA. Work with members to position the organization in terms of advocacy work on these issues.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with senior government officials, state and national health care association executives, and the hospital community. Influence policymakers, such as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, and others through meetings and presenting own ideas.
  • Analyze legislation and regulations, supervise data analyses, and write regulatory advisories and comment letters. Develop and staff member webinars.
  • Produce clear, concise issue and option analyses in oral and written formats in a variety of timeframes ranging from immediately through several weeks.
  • Work collaboratively with other AHA colleagues to effectively manage issues and support AHA activities. Ensure payment models support and align hospital work and innovation by collaborating with AHA colleagues, while maintaining overall leadership of the association’s work and direction on value- and risk-based payment models. Collaborate on changes in workforce strategies and use of telehealth and other digital health tools.

Qualifications

Education
Required: Master’s or better in Public Policy or related field.

Experience
Required: 7 years in public policy analysis and/or related health care issues area.
