About the Organization and the Opportunity

The Education Trust (EdTrust) seeks a Senior Associate, Executive Communications to join the organization’s National Communications team. The Senior Associate will join a staff committed to fulfilling our mission of closing opportunity gaps that disproportionately affect students of color and students from low-income backgrounds.

The Senior Associate, Executive Communications serves as a key communications team member with responsibility for producing high-quality written content for the President & CEO and other senior leaders at EdTrust. This role is critical to advancing EdTrust’s mission by positioning leaders to deliver messages that are clear and compelling, tailored to reach target audiences, and able to be expressed authentically, all with the goal of creating narrative and policy change.

Available immediately, this role is based in our Washington, DC office and is eligible for telework for up to three days a week per our current policy. The Senior Associate, Executive Communications reports to the Vice President of Communications.

About the Role

The responsibilities and objectives for this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Draft, edit and refine written content in the voice of the President & CEO for various audiences and platforms; content includes briefing documents, slide deck presentations, video scripts, opinion pieces, talking points, and social media posts.
  • Support content development, logistics coordination, speaker coaching and preparation of external remarks for President & CEO and other senior leaders, ensuring all written materials and logistical information details are provided in advance of events.
  • Collaborate with communications contractors and internal staff on message development and draft materials.
  • Provide reporting, writing and editing services to support EdTrust advocacy and organizational goals.
  • Develop content ideas that advance EdTrust’s mission and advocacy agenda through compelling storytelling and targeted messaging, adapting messaging for multiple formats to enhance the visibility of the President & CEO and senior leadership.
  • Create and maintain a system for organizing, categorizing and archiving written materials so that staff can easily access and retrieve past communications.
  • Stay informed on communications trends particularly those related to education equity and social justice, and regularly apply new insights.

Required Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • At least a bachelor’s degree.
  • Some (e.g., 4+ years) relevant work experience in communications, journalism, media relations, campaigns, advocacy, or a related field.
  • Speech writing experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with or knowledge of prominent education issues, particularly education equity issues preferred.

Compensation

This position falls within Level C of our salary structure for our Washington, DC office. The new hire starting salary range for this position is $67,648 to $84,560. Offers are commensurate with skills, experience, and internal equity.
