This position can be remote or located at a Viasat office.

The day-to-day

You must be diligent and proactive, show excellent business judgment, employ effective strategic and tactical thinking, and have the ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a supportive team environment. You are expected to contribute in the following areas:

Lead Viasat’s strategy and advocacy in regulatory committees and working groups on frequency allocation and spectrum matters, e.g., the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and regional organizations focusing on advanced Mobile Satellite Services.

Protect and advance Viasat’s interests in national, regional, and global preparations for World Radiocommunication Conferences (WRCs) and ITU-R Working Parties focusing on advanced Mobile Satellite Services.

Support Viasat’s participation in satellite industry trade associations, e.g., GSOA, MSSA, on advanced Mobile Satellite Services.

Develop positions, strategies, and engineering analysis for input contributions for various national and international meetings.

Design and perform engineering analyses pertaining to radio frequency interference to and from geostationary and non-geostationary satellite systems.

Provide technical support on market access and business development activities.

Develop, draft, and review detailed comments in consultations, position papers, and other advocacy, where required.

Advise Viasat’s market development, commercial, and engineering teams, as well as senior management, on regulatory opportunities and risks.

Establish and maintain productive relationships with government officials and other stakeholders.

Work closely with other teams within the company (e.g., business, legal) to obtain necessary factual inputs and facilitate appropriate internal review of planned regulatory activities.

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Science, Maths, or another related technical field and 5+ years of professional relevant experience.

Knowledge of satellite communications systems (e.g., link budgets, general radio theory, and basic orbital mechanics); national, regional, and international spectrum policies and regulation, registration, and coordination processes.

Programming and interference analysis skills.

Experience working in international regulatory and standardization fora (e.g., ITU, regional organizations, and national processes).

Understanding of policy and regulatory issues in the satellite sector, especially regarding licensing and market access.

Knowledge of broadband communications and radiofrequency spectrum technology.

Willingness to provide regular and timely reports and updates to team members and management.

Willingness and ability to operate collaboratively in a team environment with members scattered globally.

Ability to communicate fully, clearly, and effectively, both orally and in writing, with leadership and teammates.

Excellent administrative and organizational skills with high attention to detail and accuracy, together with the ability to manage simultaneous projects.

Ability to travel 30% of the time.

Salary range

$205,000.00 – $324,000.00 annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area, and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $255,000.00 – $382,000.00 annually.

Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
