Senior Director, Public Affairs

Story Partners, a leading public affairs firm in Washington, D.C., is seeking a Senior Director to manage client campaigns and drive strategy and execution across a broad range of client accounts. The successful candidate will have at least eight years of public affairs experience, including three to four years at a public affairs agency. Experience on Capitol Hill and in the energy sector is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute public affairs strategies that align with client goals.
• Lead day-to-day client work including media relations, grassroots advocacy, digital and social media, events, executive positioning, and thought leadership.
• Prioritize client accounts by engaging regularly with clients, handling many of the day-to-day deliverables, and consistently pursuing impactful, innovative, and creative strategies.
• Lead the creation of communications materials, including opinion pieces, press releases, digital and social media content, newsletter content, fact sheets, website content, and advertising copy.
• Develop and implement tailored earned media strategies and generate media placements on behalf of clients.
• Participate in business development opportunities such as idea generation, building campaign strategies, drafting proposals and presentations, and pitching new business.
• Manage vendors such as media buyers, videographers, and photographers.
• Collaborate with all members of the Story Partners team to support client accounts.
• Manage and mentor junior account managers.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated relationship-building, leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to develop and execute successful public affairs campaigns.
• Strong event management skills, with the ability to plan and execute high-profile events such as press conferences, forums, and salon dinners.
• Leverage a deep understanding of the social media landscape and digital advertising strategies to drive client outcomes.
• Strong writing skills with a persuasive writing portfolio.
• Detail-oriented team player and self-starter who works well in a fast-paced environment.
• Based in the Washington, D.C. area.
• Bachelor’s degree.
