Work Arrangement
This role is based remotely but if you live within a 50-mile radius of Austin, TX, Washington, DC, or Detroit, Warren, or Milford, MI, you are expected to report to that location three times a week, at minimum.
The Role
The Senior Local Public Policy Manager will be responsible for policy development and advocacy across 50 states. You will manage local policy priorities proactively and reactively, leading local policy in legislative, regulatory, and community matters in partnership with Mayors, County officials, City Councils, Zoning Boards, GM Real Estate and Site Planning Committees; Fire and Emergency Safety Departments, and Law Enforcement.
You will lead on public policy in corporate and commercial real estate, public subsidies, local regulations, public policy advocacy, site planning, public taxation, energy policy, utilities regulation, economic development, social impact partnerships, and community engagement.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
- Manage stakeholder relationships and government partnerships in GM priority markets.
- Partner closely with a diverse cross-section of GM business leaders to achieve business goals, overcome local policy challenges, and address issue escalations.
- Develop strong partnerships with GM plant and facility leaders to support the company’s meaningful community stewardship, including board service and employee volunteerism.
- Manage issue escalations and regulatory challenges related to plant safety, zoning, permitting, and other operational needs of a manufacturing facility.
- Act as the primary liaison, corporate brand evangelist, and GM representative with local public officials. Articulate GM’s economic development narratives by showcasing our positive impact on local host communities.
- Encourage public investments in GM’s growth and expansion in priority markets and manage all aspects of the advocacy required to achieve favorable outcomes.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent experience.
- 10 years of experience in Government Relations, Public Policy, or advocacy.
- Accomplished oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with significant attention to detail.
- Ability to drive strategy on critical issues of importance to GM.
- Ability to initiate and proactively identify opportunities to better position GM with critical internal and external constituencies.
- Ability to identify and mitigate challenges to the company.
- Keen political acumen and sound political judgment.
- Ability to self-manage, take initiative, balance multiple priorities, and develop creative approaches to public policy challenges and opportunities.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in public policy, communications, or business, or equivalent experience.
- Background/expertise in sustainability and diversity is a plus.
- Demonstrate keen attention to detail, be results-driven, and act with acute political sensitivity.

Compensation
The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington.
The salary range for this role is $156,200 – $239,300. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
