Senior Manager of Communications

Reports to: Executive Vice President (EVP)
Location: Washington, DC
Status: Full-Time
Salary Range: $85,000-$100,000 (commensurate with experience)

Join Halcyon as a Senior Manager of Communications and drive the narrative of a pioneering social impact organization. In this role, you’ll lead comprehensive communication strategies, elevate our brand, and secure national and international media coverage.

You will report to the Executive Vice President (EVP) and oversee digital engagement, collaborate with stakeholders, and mentor a high-performing team—all while amplifying Halcyon’s mission to advance social entrepreneurship.

What We Need

Strategic Communications & Brand Stewardship

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with organizational goals.
  • Oversee brand positioning and maintain consistent messaging across all platforms.
  • Lead and mentor the communications team, ensuring a collaborative and high-performing environment.

Thought Leadership

  • Proactively source opportunities for Halcyon leadership to build reputational awareness through speaking engagements, written op-eds, podcast participation, and social impact convenings.
  • Track developments in social entrepreneurship and impact investing to identify meaningful contributions Halcyon can make within the ecosystem.

Media & Public Relations

  • Craft media strategies to secure national/international coverage.
  • Manage press materials and media interviews.
  • Build relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to raise Halcyon’s profile.
  • Prepare leadership and program teams for media interviews and public speaking engagements, ensuring alignment with Halcyon’s messaging.

Digital & Social Media Management

  • Lead digital engagement efforts through content creation, social media, and email marketing.
  • Oversee updates to Halcyon’s website, ensuring it serves as a vibrant hub for organizational news, program information, and thought leadership.
  • Utilize data and insights to drive audience engagement across digital channels.
  • Track performance and refine content strategies based on metrics and analytics.

Stakeholder Engagement & Partnership

  • Collaborate with internal teams, fellows, and external partners to build impactful communication strategies.
  • Train staff and board members on media engagement and public speaking.
  • Ensure effective communication within the organization and report on communication impact metrics.

Who You Are

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: 8-10 years of experience in strategic communications, PR, or marketing, ideally in a mission-driven or nonprofit setting.
  • Media Expertise: Proven track record of securing high-profile media coverage and strong relationships with media outlets.
  • Digital Proficiency: Expertise in digital content management, social media, and using data analytics to refine strategies.
  • Leadership: Experience managing teams and working cross-functionally with diverse stakeholders.
