Senior Policy Analyst, Antitrust and Innovation Policy

The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF)—the world’s top-ranked think tank for science and technology policy—seeks a senior policy analyst to conduct research and engage in public policy debates on a range of issues related to antitrust economics and policy. This is a full-time, permanent position.

Advancing the legacy of Joseph Schumpeter, ITIF recently launched The Schumpeter Project on Competition Policy for the Innovation Economy, an initiative to develop and promote dynamic, innovation-based antitrust policy. The senior policy analyst will cover antitrust economics with a focus on innovation and dynamic competition issues, reporting to the director of ITIF’s Schumpeter Project. The analyst will conduct research and author reports, blog posts, and op-eds. The position will ideally be based in Washington, DC, but remote work is negotiable.

The ideal applicant will have deep knowledge and experience in antitrust economics, particularly industrial organization, including empirical economic analysis of competition issues. The applicant should have a strong understanding and appreciation of antitrust policy grounded in firm-level innovation capabilities and practices, and should be well-versed in current policy debates surrounding antitrust economics, concentration, and related issues.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Monitor and analyze ongoing policy developments and engage in public debates on the major economic- and innovation-related antitrust issues of the day.
• Carry out economic research and communicate findings by writing clear and incisive policy reports, op-ed articles, blog posts, and other publications.
• Represent ITIF as a speaker at conferences, panel discussions, debates, and other events.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships and networks with key stakeholders involved in research and policy.

Qualifications:

• At least four years’ experience as a professional in the field of economics or antitrust policy.
• Proven track record of producing high-quality research outputs, policy reports, op-eds, or other forms of policy-oriented communication.
• Graduate degree or equivalent experience in economics, public policy, or political economy.
• In-depth knowledge of industrial organization economics, microeconomic analysis, and the history of U.S. antitrust policy.
• Understanding and proven ability to critique a variety of economic arguments and analyses regarding competition issues and claims.
• Strong writing skills, especially an ability to communicate succinctly and persuasively to policy audiences in clear, accessible white papers and readily publishable op-eds.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to present effectively in policy debates and speeches, work productively in a team environment, and communicate clearly under pressure.
• Keen interest in and support for technological innovation and innovation policy.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects concurrently.
