Senior Press Secretary Position

C2ES seeks a Senior Press Secretary to lead media engagement and strategy for C2ES policy and advocacy communications.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and develop strong relationships with U.S. and international climate and energy policy editors, reporters, and podcasters.
  • Originate story ideas in conjunction with program staff and place them with media contacts.
  • Proactively secure opportunities, manage media inquiries, and support staff with talking points and logistical assistance.
  • Coordinate background meetings and develop relationships between reporters and senior staff.
  • Identify media opportunities in advance and lead press rollout strategies, including drafting press releases, talking points, and fact sheets.
  • Secure and manage radio and TV bookings for C2ES President and senior staff, including media training.
  • Maintain media lists and profiles for key journalists.
  • Maintain a catalog of issue-focused talking points.
  • Plan and execute in-person and virtual events.
  • Act as a spokesperson for C2ES.

Qualifications

  • Extensive network of influential reporters and columnists in climate, energy, environment, policy, and economics.
  • Proven success in results-oriented policy campaigns.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • At least 8 years of experience in communications, including extensive media pitching.
  • Strong critical thinking and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in WordPress, Cision, Canva, Zoom Webinar, and Adobe Creative Cloud (preferred).
  • Willingness to take initiative and contribute at all levels.
  • Undergraduate degree in communications, public policy, environmental studies, or related fields. Postgraduate degree is a plus.

Reporting To

Vice President of Communications

Salary

$97,000 – $122,000 annually, depending on experience. Excellent benefits.

Employment Status

Full-time, benefits-eligible; exempt from overtime.

Work Location & Travel

C2ES operates a hybrid work environment from our main office at 1400 K Street NW, Suite 1100, Washington, DC. Candidates must be local to the DMV area and are expected to work in the office three days per week. Some domestic travel for events and conferences is required. Candidates must have the right to work in the United States.
