BNY is seeking a Senior Vice President, State and Local Government Relations to develop and execute BNY public policy and government relations priorities in New York to build the bank’s public profile on policy issues by deepening our engagement with strategic partners to achieve key objectives.
The ideal candidate is strategic, collaborative, and creative with a record of successfully executing on priorities and building coalitions. In this role, you will work in collaboration with colleagues on the Public Policy and Government Affairs (PPGA) team to develop and advance public policy priorities and build the bank’s profile in New York State, New York City, and other locations to help position the bank with policymakers, clients, and other stakeholders.
You will establish yourself as a trusted advisor and collaborator, working with partners across the bank, including senior leadership, AI Hub, Communications, Foundation, Community Solutions, and Legal teams, in addition to various lines of business and partners across the bank. This role will report directly to the Head of US Government Relations and will be based in New York, NY.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Develop, prioritize, and advance key public policy priorities for BNY at the state and local level in New York and other locations to lead state-level engagement with elected officials and policymakers.
Collaborate with colleagues on the PPGA team to understand the regulatory and legislative environment that impacts our business and how it intersects with BNY strategy and interests. Share information and collaborate on shared objectives.
Build and leverage relationships with policymakers and allies externally to build coalitions that help advance key priorities and manage BNY public policy engagement with trade associations, membership organizations, consultants, and other allies and partners.
Work with internal stakeholders to address public policy issues, advance solutions, and serve as a trusted advisor and partner.
Prepare briefing, presentation, and advocacy materials that distill policy messages and resonate across a range of audiences, including policymakers, partners, and clients.
Represent BNY’s Political Action Committee in internal and external engagements.
Identify and seek out opportunities to position BNY and key executives as leaders on public policy priorities.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:
10+ years of experience in state public policy, advocacy, or government relations with engagement in the political process with policymakers and stakeholders, ideally with a background in both the public and private sector and exposure to financial services issues.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex policies and information in succinct and compelling ways for diverse audiences.
Proven experience leading, collaborating, and executing on policy issues across multiple stakeholders in a dynamic environment.
Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to build consensus, with the ability to independently execute tasks and deliver results.
Creativity, curiosity, and a self-starter demeanor with the ability to adapt quickly to changing needs and thrive in fast-paced environments.
Strong political acumen through understanding of state public policy, political dynamics, and the ability to be effective with members of both political parties.
Sound judgment and exceptional organizational and administrative skills with keen attention to detail and the ability to manage many competing priorities and responsibilities.

Compensation
BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $116,000 and $220,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short- and long-term incentive packages, and company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will, and the company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
