Description
This position is located in Washington D.C. with the expectation of being onsite 3 days/week.
The Senior Associate Director, Government Affairs & Public Policy will formulate, communicate, and advocate externally Boehringer Ingelheim’s position on public policy issues affected by the federal and state government. The incumbent will advance Boehringer Ingelheim policy positions with trade associations, legislative coalitions, advocacy groups and other stakeholders.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Advocates and advances Boehringer Ingelheim positions on public policy issues with targeted external advocacy and professional groups.
- Encourages external adoption of Boehringer Ingelheim policy positions by Boehringer Ingelheim trade associations to leverage their lobbying and influence to advance our priorities.
- Collaborates with trade associations to improve regulations and legislation and shape priorities.
- Aligns Boehringer Ingelheim positions with influential national legislative coalitions.
- Seeks opportunities to enhance our business, advance Boehringer Ingelheim policy positions, bolster corporate reputation, and differentiate Boehringer Ingelheim.
- Plans GAPP strategies and tactics to support Boehringer Ingelheim business objectives with state and federal policymakers and third parties. Executes tactics through outreach and collaboration with stakeholders based in Washington, D.C. and at the state level.
- Tracks and analyzes effects of state and federal legislation and regulation on Boehringer Ingelheim’s businesses.
- Develops strategies for key legislative and regulatory issues to mitigate risks and advance potential opportunities.
- Provides strategic policy and political guidance to OPUs and other departments to prepare for legislative and regulatory proposals and evaluate the impact on our business.
- Develops resources and materials to support analysis of proposals and positioning regarding Boehringer Ingelheim policy positions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum of six (6) years combined experience in government affairs in private or public industry, or consulting firm are required plus four to six (4-6) years of project leadership experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey complex and changing legislation, regulations, and the impact to Boehringer Ingelheim.
- Influencing and persuasion skills to successfully advocate our positions externally.
- Analytical skills to understand key components of legislation and the potential effect on Boehringer Ingelheim and the industry.
- Experience working with influential groups in Washington, D.C., including trade associations and the advocacy community.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
- Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
