Versar is seeking a strategic communications specialist in Washington, DC. Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills as well as strong editing capabilities. Job requirements include delivering high quality, low-error, communication material for targeted and broad audiences (both internal and external). This position will lead communication planning and tracking efforts, working closely with the federal client. Candidates must be able to quickly digest and condense technical and non-technical material to produce a professional informational product that can be easily understood by the chosen target audience. To accomplish this, the candidate will often be required to communicate or meet with and interview stakeholders, subject matter experts and leadership.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Research, analyze, and translate complex information into digestible written content for a variety of audiences and formats (blogs, web copy, social media, printed collateral, interactive digital products).
- Perform stakeholder analyses, recommend engagement paths, core messaging, and strategy to augment outreach.
- Conduct interviews with subject matter experts to develop non-technical articles posted to a public facing website.
- Research and prepare talking points or long form remarks, and interface with senior executives to prepare for internal and external speaking opportunities.
- Edit technical and non-technical publicly releasable documents for grammar, tone and proper DHS branding.
- Assist with on-going strategic communications planning initiatives.
- Edit, revise and rewrite quick turnaround taskings on a variety of topics for Congressional or leadership audiences.
- Collaborate with graphics and video professionals on special projects.
- Draft video scripts on key mission and technical areas.
- Develop tailored communications plans for targeted audiences such as intergovernmental partners, elected officials, industry, technology end users, and academia.
Minimum Qualifications / Requirements:
- At least 8-10 years’ experience with strategic communications; 2+ years’ experience providing support to senior executives in a large, corporate environment; 1+ years’ experience with change management; Strong writing, editing, and slide deck-building skills; Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills; Experience operating in a fast-paced, highly-pressured environment; Experience with Microsoft Office (especially Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel; Publisher preferred).
Education:
- BS/BA in relevant field
