## The American Hospital Association (AHA)
The American Hospital Association (AHA) is a national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities. The AHA has two main offices, located in Washington, D.C., and Chicago. The AHA offers a flexible hybrid work schedule of three days in the office and two days working remotely.
**This role is located in Chicago.**
Responsible for developing and implementing communications strategies to support various AHA business units and projects. This position is responsible for writing and editing news articles, reports, policy briefs, blogs, e-newsletters and other communications products to promote AHA resources to members and the public. The position must adhere to AHA’s high standards for writing and editing. Audiences include, but are not limited to, AHA members and staff, policymakers and the public, state hospital association executives and hospital trustees.

## Essential Functions
– **Communications Strategy** — Works with colleagues from across the association to develop and implement communications strategies that support the promotion of AHA resources to members and the public.
– **Communication Products** — Leads efforts to develop communication products that deliver high value to AHA members and position the AHA as a thought leader in the public.
– **Content Development** — Conducts research and develops content for assigned communications products, including news articles, e-newsletters, press releases, blogs, reports, digital content, website materials, emails, videos, podcasts, presentations, scripts, white papers and others.
– **Writing & Editing** — Writes, edits and proofreads content for assigned communications products distributed to AHA members and policymakers.
– **Brand Consistency** — Ensures all content is consistent and on-brand across assigned communication channels and adheres to AHA style guidelines.
– **Webpage Maintenance** — Ensures content of assigned webpages is maintained on a regular basis.
– **Team Collaboration** — Contributes to team meetings and stays up to date on AHA activities by closely following AHA and industry publications and websites. Attends assigned conferences and helps produce blogs, podcasts and videos.
– **Audience Understanding** — Understands AHA audiences and stakeholders in order to effectively develop and deliver appropriate, relevant and credible content.
– **Member Engagement** — Contributes to Advocacy and Member Communications team by recommending strategies to help drive member engagement with AHA communication products.
– **Other Duties** — Performs other duties as assigned.

## Minimum Qualifications: Education
– **Bachelor’s Degree** in Journalism, English, Communications, or related field — Required

## Minimum Qualifications: Work Experience
– **5+ years** professional writing and editing experience — Required
– Experience with writing for and editing electronic newsletters — Preferred
– Experience writing or editing on health care issues — Preferred

## Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
– **Advanced editing and writing knowledge** — Required
– **Background in journalism** and constructing news stories — Required
– **Knowledge of Associated Press style** — Required
– **Intermediate Microsoft Office skills** (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) — Required
– Familiarity with video creation and editing software — Preferred
– Knowledge of a marketing automation platform (e.g., Real Magnet) — Preferred
– Familiarity with a website content management system — Preferred
– Ability to work independently and as part of a team — Required
– Ability to work successfully with senior executives, policy experts, lobbyists, legal and communications staff — Required
– Ability to handle shifting priorities and meet tight deadlines — Required
– Ability to translate complex issues into clear, accurate and persuasive prose — Required
– Ability to develop clear messages and customize them for a variety of audiences — Required

## Salary Information
Commensurate with related experience. The AHA is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. A candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and location.
**Salary Range – Minimum:** 79,000
**Salary Range – Midpoint:** 99,000
**Salary Range – Maximum:** 119,000
