# What is the opportunity? State & Local Government Affairs Lead
As a State & Local Government Affairs Lead, you will be responsible for driving our state‑based government strategy across the United States, with a strategic focus on California and other key states as coordinated with Omnissa’s Public Sector SLED Sales organization.
This role will support Omnissa’s goal of expanding its footprint in key states by building meaningful relationships with state legislators, governors’ offices, and key government stakeholders at the state and local level.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in state‑level policy and legislative advocacy, knowledge of state governments, their key stakeholders and legislative processes, and a collaborative spirit to work closely with our sales organization to identify opportunities and public policy that generate new business pipeline. You will serve as the company’s primary representative before state and local government officials, positioning Omnissa solutions as essential tools for modernizing government operations.
# Responsibilities
– **Primary liaison** — Serve as the company’s primary liaison to state legislators, legislative staff, and Governor’s Offices, building and maintaining trusted, long‑term relationships.
– **Government affairs strategy** — Develop and execute a comprehensive state and local government affairs strategy with California as a key strategic priority, expanding outreach to additional high‑value states over time in consultation with Omnissa’s state and local public sector sales team.
– **Sales partnership** — Partner closely with the sales, business development, and public sector solutions teams to identify and shape policy environments that drive new government business opportunities and expand existing pipelines.
– **Executive engagement** — Coordinate executive engagements between company leadership and senior government officials to strengthen high‑level relationships and connect state and local public sector sales staff with key state stakeholders.
– **Legislative events** — Organize and lead legislative visits, fly‑ins, briefings, and roundtables with state and local government officials and company leadership.
– **Policy monitoring** — Monitor, analyze, and report on state and local legislation, regulatory proceedings, and budget developments relevant to technology procurement, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure, and public sector IT policy.
– **Stakeholder mapping** — Develop and maintain a robust stakeholder map of key decision‑makers across California and priority states.
# What will you bring to Omnissa?
## Required
– **State government experience** — 3–4 years of experience in state government relations, public policy, or legislative affairs; experience in the technology sector strongly preferred.
– **Relationship building** — Demonstrated track record of building and leveraging relationships with state legislators, legislative staff, and/or the Governor’s Office; experience in California strongly preferred.
– **Legislative expertise** — Deep understanding of state legislative and budget processes, regulatory environments, and political landscapes.
– **Policy–business alignment** — Experience working at the intersection of public policy and business development, with an ability to connect policy levers to commercial outcomes.
– **Procurement knowledge** — Strong understanding of state and local government procurement processes, IT modernization initiatives, and public sector technology needs.
– **Multi‑state strategy** — Proven ability to develop and execute multi‑state government affairs strategies.
– **Communication skills** — Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to distill complex technical and policy issues for diverse audiences.
## Preferred
– **Government experience** — Prior experience working in or directly with a state legislature, Governor’s Office, a state executive agency, or a statewide elected official’s office (preference for California experience).
– **Digital government background** — Background in digital government, enterprise technology, public sector IT, or cybersecurity.
– **Technology familiarity** — Experience with mobile device management (MDM), digital workspace, or SaaS software in a government context.
– **Existing relationships** — Existing relationships with state CIOs, CTOs, technology procurement officials, or public sector IT associations (e.g., NASCIO, NASTD).
– **Federal grants knowledge** — Familiarity with federal grant programs (e.g., BEAD, SLIGP, CISA grants) and how they create state and local technology spending opportunities.

**Location:** Mountain View, CA / Sacramento, CA / Remote CA (with statewide and national travel as required)
**Location Type:** Hybrid/Remote
**Travel Expectations:** A couple of times per quarter, based on the legislative cycle.
**Education:** Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
# Compensation & Benefits
The typical base salary for this role is between **USD $135,000 – $225,000** per year, and it may be eligible for participation in a corporate bonus program. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, education, skill level, or other relevant factors.
